ELON, N.C. – Elon University women's basketball takes on the College of Charleston at Schar Center in its first home game of the decade on Friday, Jan. 10 at 7 p.m.
 
COVERAGE

THE MATCHUP
-This will be the 34th matchup between the two teams. Elon leads the overall series 19-14.
-The Phoenix swept the Cougars during the 2018-19 regular season. Elon defeated Charleston 72-52 on Feb. 10, 2019 after its 76-68 win on Jan. 11, 2019.
 
ABOUT ELON
-Elon came up short against James Madison 61-48 in Harrisonburg, Va. on Sunday, Jan. 5.
-Brie Perpignan led the Phoenix offense with a season-high 19 points, shooting 6-9 from the field. Jaylin Powell and Micaela Ryan followed with nine points apiece, with Ryan's points matching her career high. The sophomore's shots from deep (3) also tied her personal best.
-The CAA announced in its preseason poll that the Phoenix was picked eighth, earning 28 points. James Madison was named the favorite, totaling 81 points and nine first-place votes. 
-Elon is led by ninth year head coach Charlotte Smith, who led the Phoenix to two consecutive CAA Championship titles in 2017 and 2018.
 
LOOKING AHEAD TO 2019-20
-With the midpoint of the season approaching, Elon has 16 games remaining in its regular-season schedule.
-The CAA announced on June 25, 2018 that the 2020 CAA Women's Basketball Championship will be held at Elon University's Schar Center. Competition takes place from March 11-14. Those interested in purchasing tickets can do so here.    

SCOUTING CHARLESTON
-The Cougars currently hold a 9-4 record on the season.  
-Charleston closed out a three-game home slate with an 84-73 win over Delaware on Sunday, Jan. 5. Deja Ford totaled a game-best 24 points, knocking down seven three pointers for a new personal best.
-The Cougars were predicted to finish third in the 2019 CAA Preseason Poll. Ford was named a Preseason All-Conference Honorable Mention.
 
UP NEXT
The Phoenix will match up against UNCW at Schar Center on Sunday, Jan. 12. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
