ELON, N.C. – Elon University men's basketball hosts its regular season opener on Wednesday night, Nov. 25, at 7:00 p.m. against N.C. Wesleyan.
 
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Elon will not be allowing fans inside Schar Center to begin the season. Media members who would like to request a credential can do so by contacting Don Scott (dscott16@elon.edu) or Jamal Davis (jdavis84@elon.edu).

THE MATCHUP
- This will be the 2nd time that Elon and N.C. Wesleyan have faced each other in program history, with Elon leading the series 1-0.
- Elon defeated N.C. Wesleyan 91-60 in their lone matchup last season, behind a program record 19-made threes.
 
ABOUT ELON
- The Phoenix enters this year following a season in which it appeared in the CAA Tournament Semifinals for the first time in program history.
- The 2020-21 season will be Schrage's second at the helm for the Phoenix.
- Elon rounded out last season with a 13-21 overall record and a 7-11 record in conference play.
- The maroon and gold finished last season ranked third nationally in total three point makes (346) and seventh nationally in threes made per game (10.2).
- The Phoenix led the CAA in assist to turnover ratio in 2019-20.
- Hunter Woods, Hunter McIntosh, and Zac Ervin became the first trio in Elon history to each win a Rookie of the Week Award in the same season in 2019-20.
- Elon received the NABC Team Academic Excellence Award and the APR Recognition Award for its achievements off the floor last season.
- Woods and McIntosh each earned CAA All-Rookie honors in 2019-20.
 
SCOUTING N.C. WESLEYAN
- North Carolina Wesleyan is a Division III institution out of Rocky Mount, N.C. that competes in the USA South Athletic Conference.
- The Battling Bishops finished last season with an overall record of 13-13, including a 9-8 record against conference opponents.
- North Carolina Wesleyan is in its 26th season under head coach John Thompson, who also served as the Battling Bishops' Athletic Director from 1998-2018.
- The Battling Bishops are led by Damon McDowell, who led the team in scoring (19.9 ppg) and rebounding (6.5 rpg) last season.
 
LOOKING AHEAD IN 2020-21
- After kicking off the season against N.C. Wesleyan, Elon will quickly welcome two more opponents to Schar Center in High Point (Nov. 28) and Mercer (Dec. 3) respectively. 
- Following three games at home, the maroon and gold hit the road for an away contest against Duke at Cameron Indoor Stadium on Dec. 6. Elon then travels to Washington, D.C. to matchup with Howard on Dec. 8. Both games are part of the Mako Medical Duke Classic Honoring Dr. Onye E. Akwari, a multi-team event being co-hosted by Duke and Howard.
- The Phoenix rounds out the road trip with a Dec. 12 tilt against North Carolina in Chapel Hill, N.C. Elon then returns home to finish non-conference play against Campbell (Dec. 15) and UNCG (Dec. 19). 
- Elon begins its 2020-21 conference slate on Jan. 2 when it travels to Boston to take on Northeastern.
- Elon concludes the regular season with a pair of home contests against Hofstra on Feb. 27 and 28.
 
UP NEXT
The Phoenix will be back in action on Saturday, Nov. 28, against High Point. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m. at Schar Center.
