ELON, N.C. – Elon University women's basketball heads to Charleston for a road matchup against the Cougars on Sunday, Feb. 9 at 1 p.m.
 
COVERAGE

THE MATCHUP
-This will be the 35th meeting between the two teams. Elon leads the overall series 20-14.
-Elon last faced the Cougars at Schar Center on Jan. 10. The Phoenix defeated Charleston, 90-48.  
 
ABOUT ELON
-The Phoenix completed a regular-season sweep against UNCW on Friday, Feb. 7 when it defeated the Seahawks, 60-57. The maroon and gold won the first meeting of the season, 77-53, on Sunday, Jan. 12.
-Ariel Colón led both teams with 21 points, shooting 6-of-12 from the field and 2-of-3 from beyond the arc. Kayla Liles was just eight points behind her with 13 in addition to totaling the game-best in rebounds (8).
-The CAA announced in its preseason poll that the Phoenix was picked eighth, earning 28 points. James Madison was named the favorite, totaling 81 points and nine first-place votes. 
-Elon is led by ninth year head coach Charlotte Smith, who led the Phoenix to two consecutive CAA Championship titles in 2017 and 2018.
 
LOOKING AHEAD
-Including Sunday's game, Elon has eight games remaining in its regular-season schedule.
-The CAA announced on June 25, 2018 that the 2020 CAA Women's Basketball Championship will be held at Elon University's Schar Center. Competition takes place from March 11-14. Those interested in purchasing tickets can do so here.    

SCOUTING CHARLESTON
-The Cougars currently hold an 11-10 (4-6 CAA) record on the season.
-Charleston suffered an 80-74 loss against William & Mary on Friday, Feb. 7 for its second defeat in its last three contests. Latrice Perkins recorded a team-high 23 points and grabbed five rebounds, while Arynn Eady also posted her fourth double-double of the season with 11 points and 18 rebounds. Eady's rebounds tied her career high.
-The Cougars were predicted to finish ninth in the 2019 CAA Preseason Poll. Ford was named a Preseason All-Conference Honorable Mention.

UP NEXT
The Phoenix hosts Hofstra at Schar Center on Friday, Feb. 14. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
