Elon Opens 2020 CAA Tournament Against JMU Saturday

ELON, N.C. – Elon University men's basketball will be back in action on Saturday, March 7, to tip off the 2020 CAA Men's Basketball tournament against 10th seeded James Madison.

COVERAGE
- Elon's contest against James Madison will be streamed live on FloSports.
- Listen to the Elon IMG Sports Network coverage on Phoenix All-Access or on the TuneIn app. Taylor Durham and Brian Morris will have the call from Washington, D.C., with the pregame show beginning at 6:00 p.m.
 
CAA TOURNAMENT
- The 2019-20 CAA Tournament will be held at the Entertainment and Sports Arena in Washington, D.C. beginning on Saturday, March 7.
- The Phoenix, who enters the CAA Tournament as the seventh seed, opens postseason play on Saturday night against 10th seeded James Madison. Tip off for that matchup is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. in Washington, D.C.
- With a win against James Madison on Saturday, Elon would move on to the quarterfinals round of the tournament where it would face the No. 2 seed William & Mary on Sunday, March 8, at 6 p.m.
- Fans are reminded that the Phoenix Club will be hosting a pregame social at the Mission – Navy Yard, located just a few minutes away from the Entertainment and Sports Arena, prior to each of Elon's games in the tournament. Admission to the social is free.
- Tickets for the upcoming CAA Tournament can be purchased through the Elon Ticket Office by calling (336) 278-6750 or by visiting the ticket office at Schar Center.
- Fan are also reminded that the Entertainment and Sports Arena has a clear bag policy so all items brought into the arena must be visible in the bag. A full list of policies for this year's 2020 CAA Tournament can be found here.

THE MATCHUP
- This marks the 14th time in program history that Elon will take on JMU
- In the most recent meeting, Elon defeated JMU, 70-62 on Feb. 20, 2020.
- JMU currently holds the advantage over Elon in the all-time series, 7-6
- Elon emerged victorious in both of its matchups with JMU this season.
- A win would mark the first victory for the Phoenix in the CAA Tournament since 2014
 
ABOUT ELON
- Elon currently ranks first in the CAA and seventh nationally in 3-point field goals made per game at 10.2, and have the fifth most made threes (316) in the NCAA this season. The Phoenix also ranks second in the CAA in 3-point FG percentage (36.6).
- The Phoenix currently ranks third in the CAA in assists per game (13.4) and first in assist to turnover ratio (1.1).
- Freshman guard Hunter McIntosh ranks ninth in the CAA in assists per game (3.1), while freshman forward Hunter Woods ranks ninth in rebounds per game (6.1)
- The Phoenix is led by senior guard Marcus Sheffield who ranks sixth in the CAA in scoring is at 18.6 points per game. Sheffield also ranks fifth in the CAA in three-point percentage (41.1)

SCOUTING JAMES MADISON
- The Dukes finished the regular season with an overall record of 9-20 after falling to Hofstra, 97-81, in their most recent outing
- JMU is in its fourth season under head coach Louis Rowe, who served as an assistant at Bowling Green prior to joining the Dukes' program
- The Dukes are led by Matt Lewis, who leads the team in scoring at 19.0 points per game
- JMU finished in the tenth spot in the CAA standings, posting a 2-16 record in 18 conference games this season
  
LAST TIME OUT
- Elon fell to William & Mary, 86-79, in its regular season finale on Saturday, Feb. 29.
- Sheffield led the way for the Phoenix, dropping 27 points, four rebounds and three assists on the evening. McIntosh added 22 points, seven rebounds and four assists of his own, while knocking down six threes in the contest.

UP NEXT
The winner of Elon's matchup with James Madison will move on to the quarterfinals round of the 2020 CAA Tournament to face William & Mary. That matchup would take place on Sunday, March 8, at 6:00 p.m. in Washington, D.C.
