ELON – Elon's
Iker Garmendia and Raúl Villar are among 16 players selected for the Spanish Men's U20 National Team training camp, which begins June 16 in Utebo, Spain. The final 12-player roster is expected to be announced before the team departs for the 2026 FIBA U20 EuroBasket, scheduled for July 11-19 in Ljubljana, Slovenia.
Garmendia and Villar, both natives of Barcelona, Spain, have previous national team experience with Spain at the U16 and U18 levels. Villar helped lead Spain to the U18 A European Championship last summer while serving as a team captain, while Garmendia was a key contributor to Spain's silver-medal finishes at the 2022 and 2024 European Championships at the U16 and U18 levels, respectively.
Garmendia is one of three returning scholarship players from Elon's 2025-26 team. The 6-foot-9, 220-pound forward appeared off the bench in 15 games last season, averaging 4.6 minutes per game.
Villar signed with the Phoenix in late April after spending his freshman season at Charlotte. The 6-foot-3, 205-pound guard appeared in 32 games with one start for the 49ers in 2025-26, averaging 3.2 points, 1.6 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 12.0 minutes per game.
