Box Score ELON, N.C. – Elon University men's basketball fell to Northeastern, 75-52, in its 2020-21 CAA road opener.
THE RUNDOWN
- The Phoenix opened the first half strong, starting the game on a 7-0 run.
Chuck Hannah got things rolling when
Hunter McIntosh found him cutting to the rim for an easy two. Shortly after, a
Hunter Woods mid-range jumper followed by a deep three from
Kris Wooten gave Elon the early advantage.
- After falling behind 16-10, back-to-back buckets by
Kris Wooten trimmed the Elon deficit down to 16-15 with 6:42 left before halftime.
- Both sides traded scores for the remainder of the first half, with Northeastern taking a 29-26 lead into the break.
- Trailing 41-28 with just under 16 minutes to play,
Simon Wright drilled his first three of the season to ignite a quick 10-2 Elon burst to get back into the game. Five quick points from
Chuck Hannah and
Ikenna Ndugba brought Elon within seven, before another bucket from Wright capped a run that brought the score to 43-38 with 12:16 remaining.
- Over the next five minutes of game time, Northeastern went on a 13-2 run of their own to put the game out of reach.

- Hunter McIntosh led the way for the Phoenix, posting 16 points, two rebounds and two assists.

Darius Burford combined for 16 points on the day. Burford's eight points set a new career high.
