Women's Tennis Set To Begin ITA Carolina Regionals Thursday

ELON, N.C. – Elon University women's tennis returns to action this week when it travels to Winston-Salem, N.C. for ITA Carolina Regionals. The tournament is set to begin at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 21, and conclude on Monday, Oct. 25.
 
LAST TIME OUT
- Elon continued its fall season on Oct. 9-10, when it hosted the Jimmy Powell Invitational.
- Sibel Tanik picked up two singles victories over the weekend, beating Richmond's Dunbar (6-2, 6-1) and Coastal Carolina's Samucrwicz (7-6, 6-2) respectively. Tanik also combined with Lizette Reding to win all of their doubles matches, including two wins over Richmond, two wins over Coastal Carolina and one win over UNCG.
- Alison O'Dea went undefeated in singles play, outlasting both UNCG's Perry (6-1, 6-1) and Coastal Carolina's Urelli (6-2, 6-7, 10-4).
- Lizette Reding, Victoria Saldh, Julie Ball, Shauna Galvin, Olivia Archer and Sarah Allen also picked up singles wins for the Phoenix during the tournament.
- Shauna Galvin and Sarah Allen took down Richmond's Cohen and Shitikova (8-3) to earn a doubles win over the weekend.
- Alison O'Dea and Victoria Saldh logged the final doubles win for the Phoenix, taking down Perry and Galbigher, 8-1.

ABOUT THE PHOENIX
- Elon enters this season following a year in which it posted a 17-5 overall record and clinched a berth into the CAA Tournament semifinals.
- The Phoenix posted a 12-2 mark in matches played at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center and went 4-1 in road contests last season.
- Elon returns six athletes from last year's squad in All-CAA selections Tanik (1st Team), Reding (Rookie of the Year; 2nd Team Singles; 3rd Team Doubles), Saldh (3rd Team Singles), and O'Dea (3rd Team Doubles).
- Other returners for the Phoenix include Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sport Excellence Award recipient, Archer, and junior Galvin.
- The Phoenix is led by Elizabeth Anderson, who will begin her 18th season at the helm of the program in 2021-22.
 
NEW FACES FOR 2021-22
- Elon will feature two newcomers this season in first-year Sarah Allen and Tennessee transfer Julie Ball.
- Allen joins the Phoenix from Christ Church Episcopal School, where she was a five-time team State Champion from 2016-2020 and earned four top-5 finishes at the All-State Singles Championships in 2017 (5th), 2018 (4th), 2019 (4th) and 2020 (2nd).
- Ball comes to Elon from the University of Tennessee where she earned Spring SEC Academic Honor Roll honors in 2020.

The Phoenix concludes its fall campaign when it hosts the Elon Invite at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center from Oct. 29-30.
