Richmond, Va. – Elon University quarterback
Davis Cheek has been named CAA Football's Offensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive game after leading the Phoenix to a 24-10 win over New Hampshire Saturday.
Cheek was a remarkable 27-of-31 passing for 328 yards. He played a part in all three of Elon's touchdowns, passing for two of them and rushing for another. After an early interception, Cheek rebounded by completing 20 of his next 21 attempts, including 17 consecutively at one point as the Phoenix scored the final 17 points of the contest.
Cheek's 87.1 completion percentage is the fourth-best single-game performance in FCS this season and he threw touchdown passes of 58 yards, on the second play of the game, and 18 yards. It was the fourth 300-yard performance of the season for Cheek.
With the win, Elon improved to 4-3 overall and 3-1 in CAA Football play, setting up a showdown with James Madison, another program with just one CAA Football loss this year.
