ELON, N.C. – Elon University men's basketball rounded out the Shriners Children's Charleston Classic with a 75-58 loss against Temple on Sunday, Nov. 21.
THE RUNDOWN
- After Temple took a 5-2 lead in the early stages of the first half, Elon used a 10-2 run to surge back in front. Back-to-back threes from
Zac Ervin and
Hunter McIntosh keyed the spurt and gave Elon an 8-5 lead four minutes into the contest.
Torrence Watson and
Sam Sherry scored the final four points in cap the run.
-Â With just under seven minutes to play in the first half and Elon leading by one, McIntosh and Ervin each knocked down a triple to put the Phoenix on top 26-19. After the Owls scored to cut their deficit back down to four, Watson drained a three in transition to push the lead back to 7.
- Elon entered the break leads 33-26.
- Temple opened the second half on a 7-0 run to tie the game at 33. From there, the two sides traded scores on the next few possessions, battling to a 40-40 tie with just over 15 minutes to play in the game. The Owls then went on an 8-0 run to take a 48-40 at the 14 minutes mark of the second half.
- With eight minutes remaining in the game and Elon trailing by just five, Temple used an 11-0 run that lasted almost six minutes to extend their advantage. The run ended with the Owls leading, 64-48, with two minutes remaining, putting the game out of reach.

-Â Hunter McIntosh led the way for the Phoenix, dropping 16 points and four assists, also knocking down 4-of-7 shots from beyond the arc.

Torrence Watson added 12 points and four rebounds in 30 minutes of action.

Darius Burford chipped in nine points, two assists and a team-high seven rebounds in the loss.

Hunter Woods and
Zac Ervin combined for 11 points and eight rebounds on the afternoon.
- The Phoenix held a 19-15 advantage in bench points.

Elon will be back in action on Saturday, Nov. 27, when it returns home to take on Jacksonville State at the Schar Center. That contest is slated for a 1 p.m. tip and will be streamed live on FloSports.
