Elon Women's Tennis Set To Host NCCU On Saturday

ELON, N.C. – Elon University women's tennis returns to action tomorrow, Feb. 27, when it hosts N.C. Central at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center on Elon's campus. That contest is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
 
THE SERIES
- Elon has never lost to N.C. Central in program history, leading the all-time series 11-0.
- The Phoenix defeated NCCU, 7-0, in their most recent meeting on Jan. 16, 2019.   
 
ABOUT THE PHOENIX
- Elon is off to an 5-2 start to the season after dominating Presbyterian, 7-0, in its most recent outing.
- Freshman Lizette Reding has started the season off hot, going 5-1 through the first six singles matches she has competed in this season.
- Junior Victoria Saldh is off to a 5-1 start in singles play this season while also posting a 2-0 record in the No. 1 slot.
- Freshman Alison O'Dea remained undefeated in singles play (4-0) after taking down Presbyterian's Lucianna Piedra 6-4, 6-2, in straight sets.
- Sophomore Sibel Tanik earned her first singles win since joining Elon against the Blue Hose, outlasting Samantha Calais 7 (10) – 6 (8), 6-3, in her most recent match.
- The combination of Sofia Edo and Victoria Saldh leads the team with three wins in doubles play this season.
- Elon returns six athletes from last year's squad for the 2021 season in Sofia Edo, Olivia Archer, Victoria Saldh, Shauna Galvin, Kiana Rizzolo and Uma Nayar. Elon also added East Carolina transfer Sibel Tanik, as well as freshmen Alison O'Dea and Lizette Reding to the team.
- The Phoenix is led by seventeenth-year head coach Elizabeth Anderson.
 
SCOUTING N.C. CENTRAL
- NCCU is led by head coach Tom Schrecengost, who is in his sixth season at the helm of the program.
- NCCU is off to an 0-3 start to the season after being swept by Campbell (7-0) in its most recent contest.
- Josefa Fernandez leads the Eagles with one singles wins in three matches this year.

- Elon returns to action on Tuesday, March 2, to take on Radford. That matchup is slated for 2 p.m. at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center in Elon, N.C.
