Women's Tennis Returns Home To Host Longwood On Tuesday

ELON, N.C. – Elon University women's tennis returns to action tomorrow, March 23, when it hosts Longwood at 2 p.m. at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center on Elon's campus.
 
THE SERIES
- Elon and Longwood will meet for the fifth time in program history on Tuesday, with Elon leading the all-time series 3-1.
- The Phoenix defeated the Lancers, 7-0, in their most recent meeting on Feb. 15, 2020.   
 
ABOUT THE PHOENIX
- Elon is off to an 10-3 start to the season after defeating UNCW, 6-1, in its most recent outing.
- The Phoenix is currently 6-1 in matches played at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center this season and 4-1 in road contests.
- Freshman Lizette Reding has started the season off hot, going 10-2 through the first 12 singles matches of her career. Reding also holds an 8-1 record in No. 3 singles so far this season.
- Junior Victoria Saldh is also off to an 10-2 start in singles play this season, while posting a 7-1 record in the No. 1 slot.
- Olivia Archer picked up her fifth win of the season against UNCW, moving to 5-2 in singles play overall this season.  
- After picking up a win against UNCW over the weekend, Sibel Tanik has now won five of her last seven singles matches.
- The combination of Victoria Saldh and Sofia Edo extended their doubles winning-streak to six with their win against Towson. Edo and Saldh lead the team with nine doubles wins on the year.
- Alison O'Dea and Lizette Reding have posted a 6-3 record in doubles play after winning their last two doubles matches against Towson and UNCW respectively.
- Elon returns six athletes from last year's squad for the 2021 season in Sofia EdoOlivia ArcherVictoria SaldhShauna GalvinKiana Rizzolo and Uma Nayar. Elon also added East Carolina transfer Sibel Tanik, as well as freshmen Alison O'Dea and Lizette Reding to the team.
- The Phoenix is led by seventeenth-year head coach Elizabeth Anderson.
 
SCOUTING LONGWOOD
- Longwood is led by head coach Jhonnatan Medina Alvarez, who is in his first season at the helm of the women's tennis program.
- The Lancers are off to a 3-6 start to the season after falling to UNC Asheville, 6-1, in its most recent contest.
- Emma Nurgazieva is leading the way for Longwood, posting four wins in singles play with a 3-1 record in the No. 1 slot. Nurazieva also ranks second on the team with three doubles win so far this year.
