CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Elon University men's golf team is in eighth place following the first two rounds of the 2021 Tar Heel Intercollegiate. The 14-team field is playing at the par-72, 7,242-yard Finley Golf Course.
After inclement weather prevented the field from completing the opening round yesterday, play resumed late this morning after a delayed restart. The Phoenix carded a three-over par 291 through the first 18 holes, then followed with a nine-over 297 for a combined score of 588 (+12). The host Tar Heels are in first place with a 561 (-15), Michigan State is second with a 573 (-3), and Campbell rounds out the top three with a 575 (-1).
"Today was a long 23 holes of golf," said head coach
Don Hill. "I thought the guys were really grinding and competing throughout much of the day. Conditions weren't easy. The fairways are extremely wet and wind factored into every decision. But even in the conditions, we were in a good position with five holes to play. Unfortunately, we didn't finish the round off and dropped a few shots down the stretch. Big picture we are playing solid golf and I expect that to continue tomorrow. Hopefully we can get a little more out of our rounds."
