CARY, N.C. – William Frodigh shot a one-under par 71 to lead the Elon University men's golf team in the opening round of the 2021 Stitch Intercollegiate on Friday, April 9. NC State is hosting the tournament at the par-72, 6,973-yard course at MacGregor Downs Country Club. Play was halted late in the second round due to inclement weather in the area.
The Phoenix carded a three-over 291 as a team and is tied for 11th after the first 18 holes. The host Wolfpack is atop the team standings with a 20-under par 268. Notre Dame and Virginia are tied for second after posting scores of 275 (-13).
HIGHLIGHTS
Frodigh finished the first round tied for 26th. Next for the maroon and gold were
Max Ferrari and
Josef Dransfeld, with both turning in an even 72 to tie for 33rd.
Cristian Del Vecchio is tied for 56th with a four-over 76, and
Pedro Rabadan is 65th with a seven-over 79. Ferrari led the team with 10 birdies and Frodigh followed with eight. Del Vecchio made 23 putts for par and Rabadan was right behind him with 22. Dransfeld posted a 2.86 average in par-3 scoring, Ferrari a 4.14 average in par-5 scoring, and Frodigh a 4.57 average in par-5 scoring.
UP NEXT
Play will resume tomorrow with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. Teams will pick up where they left off in round two and continue immediately into the third and final round.
