ELON, N.C. – Elon University baseball is on the road this Tuesday, May 4 as the Phoenix (16-18, 8-7) heads to Raleigh, N.C. for a 6 p.m. meeting with NC State.

THE SERIES
- The Wolfpack (22-14, 14-13 ACC) leads the all-time series 44-13, to include a 17-5 edge when hosting the maroon and gold.
- The teams last met for a home-and-home series during the 2019 season.
- Despite a strong outing from Jared Wetherbee in hist first career start, No. 22 NCSU took the first meeting 5-0 on Tuesday, Feb. 19 at Latham Park.
- Wetherbee held the Pack to one run three hits and two walks, adding seven strikeouts across 5.2 innings. Jack Roberts batted 2-for-3 with a double to lead the Phoenix. Anthony Galason also turned in a multi-hit outing, his third in four games, as he finished 2-for-5. Joe Satterfield (1-for-2 with two walks) and Tyler Stanley (1-for-1) collected the other two hits for Elon.
- On March 26 in Raleigh, with the Pack ranked first in the nation by Collegiate Baseball, Elon fell 21-2 at Doak Field at Dail Park. The Pack scored in each of the first seven innings as Mason Daniels fell to 2-1 in the loss. Matt Oldham batted 2-for-2 and walked once and Satterfield hit 2-for-3 and drove in a run. Four other players collected hits, with Nick Cicci singling in his lone appearance at the plate.

SCOUTING THE WOLFPACK
- NC State is coming off a 2-1 series win at Wake Forest this past weekend.
- It marked the fourth series win of the season for the Pack.
- The opener went to NCSU 13-7 on Friday, but the host Demon Deacons pulled even with a 14-11 victory last Saturday. NCSU then captured the rubber match 15-8 on Sunday.
- The Pack was picked to finish second in the Atlantic Division in the ACC's preseason coaches' poll.
- Catcher Luca Tresh was named a Preseason Third Team All-American by Collegiate Baseball, while Tyler McDonough and Jose Torres were named Preseason All-Americans by D1 Baseball. Additionally, Tresh was named to the Bobby Bragan Collegiate Slugger Award watch list, Torres to the Golden Spikes Award Preseason watch list, and Kent Klyman to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Stopper of the Year Preseason watch list.
- NC State is currently fifth in the ACC's Atlantic Division.
- Four players are batting over .300. Leading the way is Jonny Butler with a .371 average. Next is McDonough at .344, Austin Murr follows with a .319 clip, and Terrell Tatum is hitting .303.
- Butler leads the team in batting average, on-base percentage (.446) and stolen bases (9-for-9). McDonough has team highs in slugging percentage (.669), hits (52), home runs (12), RBIs (33) and walks (24).
- As a team, the Pack is hitting .288 with a .486 slugging percentage and a .372 on-base percentage.
- Freshman left hander Chris Villaman is expected to get the start for NCSU. The High Point, N.C. native owns a 4-2 record and a 5.45 ERA through six starts and 11 appearances. He has given up 22 runs, all earned, through 36.1 innings and has 36 strikeouts against 11 walks.
- NC State pitchers own a combined 5.30 ERA with opposing teams hitting .248 against them.
- Through games played on May 2, the Pack ranks third in the country in fielding percentage (.985), 11th in home runs per game (1.53), 16th in home runs (55) and slugging percentage, and 28th in scoring (7.2 runs per game).
- Murr is 19th in the nation with 1.18 runs per game and Butler is 23rd with 1.16 runs per game. McDonough's 12 home runs and 0.33 home runs per game are both ranked 22nd nationally, and he is also 24th in total bases with 101.

ABOUT THE PHOENIX
- Alex Iadisernia leads the Phoenix in batting average (.371), on-base percentage (.458), hits (49), doubles (9), home runs (9), runs scored (30), RBIs (24) and walks (20).
- Also hitting .300 or better are Tyler Cranston (.342) and Justin Cassella (.329).
- The team has stolen 34 bases in 45 attempts. Galason leads the way with an 8-for-9 success rate, Cassella is 6-for-6 and Iadisernia 6-for-10.
- Elon is batting .259 with a .409 slugging percentage and a .350 on-base percentage.
- Liam Dabagian will look to make his second career start on Tuesday against the Pack. The lefty is 0-0 this season with a 9.00 ERA through three appearances and one start. He has surrendered five runs, all earned, on eight hits and two walks. The Media, Pa. native has recorded three strikeouts over 5.0 innings pitched.
- Elon pitchers have a combined 4.79 ERA and opposing batters are hitting .265.
- Elon leads the CAA with 1.09 home runs per game and is second with 37 home runs and a 2.48 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
- Joe Savino is fourth in the nation with a 10.80 strikeout-to-walk ratio and is eighth with 1.02 walks allowed per nine innings. Joe Sprake leads the conference and is 36th in the nation with six victories.

ELON EARNS SERIES WIN OVER CHARLESTON
- Elon took 2-of-3 games from College of Charleston this past weekend at Latham Park.
- The Phoenix opened the conference series with a 14-5 final last Friday. After a slow start, the team erupted for eight runs on five hits and an error in the bottom of the sixth. Brian Edgington improved to 2-3 as he struck out four in a 6.0-inning start. Garrett Stonehouse went 3-for-4, doubled, scored twice, drove in four runs and added a base on balls. Cole Reynolds hit 3-for-3 with two runs and two walks, and Cicci was 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI. Cassella, Parker Haskin and Adam Spurlin all homered.
- Saturday's game went to extra innings, and Cranston secured the win and series victory with a walk-off RBI single off the wall in left in the bottom of the 11th. The Phoenix used a six-run bottom of the eighth to rally from a 10-4 deficit.
- CofC took the series finale 6-3 on Sunday. It looked like the visitors would shut out the maroon and gold, but Elon manufactured three runs on as many hits in the bottom of the eighth.
- Elon and CofC are tied atop the CAA South Division standings.
- Elon went 7-2 in home conference games this season.
- The Phoenix and Cougars will meet again for three games in Mt. Pleasant, S.C. on May 20-22 to conclude the regular season.

IT'S A FAMILY AFFAIR
- In Friday's win over the Cougars, Haskin hit his first career home run, a grand slam that extended Elon's lead, 9-3.
- His older brother Hudson, who played at Tulane, hit a grand slam for his first collegiate hit in a 16-6 win over George Washington on Feb. 17, 2019.

UP NEXT
Elon will play a 1 p.m. game at Wake Forest next Sunday, May 9. The team is still looking for an opponent for this Friday and Saturday, May 7-8.
