Elon Welcomes UNCW To Latham

Phoenix Seeking Second Straight CAA Series Win

ELON –The Elon baseball team (17-23, 8-13 CAA) will look to build off a CAA series win last week as it hosts UNCW (22-18, 10-8 CAA) for an upcoming weekend series at Latham Park.

Elon has won three of its four series against in-state, CAA opponents, and will look to add to that against the Seahawks.

All three games will be streamed on FloCollege. Audio broadcasts will also be available on the Varsity Network App.

HOW TO FOLLOW
SERIES HIGHLIGHTS
  • Elon trails 38-57 in the all-time series against UNCW.
  • The two met for a weekend series earlier this season at Brooks Field in Wilmington, when the Seahawks took all three matchups including a 16-inning thriller.
  • The Phoenix has lost 10 straight games to Seahawks, with its last win coming in 2023.
  • Since the start of the decade, Elon is 4-6 against UNCW at Latham Park. The Phoenix last beat the Seahawks at Latham Park in 2023 in a 3-1 affair behind a two-RBI day from Ryan Sprock and 2.1 innings of perfect relief from Liam Dabagian.
  • The in-state foes have met in the regular season, CAA Tournament and NCAA Tournament over the past 15 years.

QUICK HITS
  • Elon has won three of its past four games – all being top-90 RPI victories – besting Campbell twice on the road last weekend before earning a 10-8 win at Winthrop on Tuesday.
  • Senior Jackson Alford has been one of the top base stealers in the country in 2026, swiping 28 of 33 to rank second in the CAA and 10th nationally. Alford is the first Phoenix since Tyler Stanley (2019) to steal 28 or more bases in a season. With a stolen base against Winthrop, Alford entered Elon's single-season top 10 list.
  • Graduate Brian DuRoff has paced the Phoenix offense since the start of April, hitting .429 (21-for-49) with 13 extra-base hits and 17 RBI in that span. DuRoff hit his 16th double of the season on Tuesday night, which ties him for the most by a Phoenix since the 2020 season.
  • Brian Strange continues to deliver for the Phoenix on Friday night. Over his last three starts, Strange has recorded a 2.37 ERA and a 2-0 record. Strange is currently fourth in the CAA in strikeouts with 59.
  • Jared Hall has heated up over the last 12 games, homering in consecutive games and while having scored multiple runs in three of his last six games. Hall has vaulted his batting average up to over .260 with his recent run.
  • Mike Staiano has rounded into form at the backend of Elon's bullpen. The left-hander has earned a save in his last three relief appearances, including Tuesday night at Winthrop. Staiano is second in the CAA in saves (5) behind his teammate RJ Latkowksi (6).
  • Following a 25-32 (13-14 CAA) season in 2025, Elon was picked in a tie for fourth in the 2026 CAA preseason poll.
  • Head coach Mike Kennedy is in his 30th season at the helm of Elon Baseball. After earning 25 wins last season, Kennedy has led the Phoenix to 24 seasons of 25 wins or more. Kennedy is a 2025-26 Elon Sports Hall of Fame inductee.
