Richmond, Va. – Sophomore defensive back
Tre'Von Jones has been named the CAA Football Defensive Player Of The Week after helping the Elon football team to a 24-23 road victory over Campbell Saturday. Jones led the team in tackles and made several critical plays in the fourth quarter of the win.
Jones' turnovers directly led to Elon's final 10 points as the Phoenix overcame a 17-7 second half deficit to get the win. Early in the fourth quarter, he snared his first interception of the season and returned it 27 yards to the 28-yard line. Elon would score the go-ahead touchdown five plays later for a 21-17 lead.
With Campbell looking to rally late in the fourth,
Nick Veloz forced a fumble and Jones jumped on the loose ball. Three plays later,
Skyler Davis connected on a 47-yard field goal that gave Elon a 24-17 lead.
Along with the big plays defensively, Jones led the team with nine tackles and had a quarterback sack. He also served as the team's primary return man, taking the second-half kickoff back 39 yards and returning four punts for eight yards.
With the win, Elon improved to 1-1 on the season. The Phoenix will play its final non-conference game of the season Saturday as Elon travels to Boone, N.C. to face Appalachian State at 3:30 p.m.
