Cross Country Closes Out Regular Season at Pirate Invitational

ELON, N.C. – The 2022 regular season comes to a close for the Elon University cross country programs on Friday, Oct. 14, as the Phoenix competes at the Pirate Invitational hosted by East Carolina. The women's 6K race is set to begin at 4 p.m. with the men's 8K getting underway at 4:45 p.m. The event will be free to the public at Overton's Lake Kristi cross country course.

ABOUT THE MEET
• Teams expected to be in attendance include East Carolina, Coastal Carolina, Elon, George Washington and UNCW, among others.
 
PHOENIX IN COMPETITION
• The Phoenix female harriers expected to compete at the Pirate Invitational include Jette Beermann, Julia Bell, Taylor Haerbig, Hannah Miller, Braetan Peters, Sarah Petitjean, Bailey Reutinger, Alice Roberts, Sydney Swan, Maya Wilkins and Jasmine Young.
• The Elon men scheduled to line up on Friday: Cameron Dunn, Ramy Ghandour, Garrison Gilbert, Zane Jackson, Michael Koenig, Daniel King, George Linney, Nate Mars, Tamer Metwalli, Andrew Miller and Colby Robbins.
 
LAST TIME OUT
• The Phoenix competed at the Paul Short Run on Sept. 30 on the campus of Lehigh University in its most recent race.
• The Elon women was seventh at the meet, finishing with 283 points in the College Gold 6K run in the 46-team field. In the Men's College Brown's 8K, the Phoenix men was 16th overall out of 45 teams with 498 points.
• Redshirt junior Leandra Lorenz set a new school record in the 6K as the Kleinmachnow, Germany, native clocked a time of 20:02.9 to break Scolasticah Kemei's previous school-record time of 20:25.67 in 2019. Lorenz was 21st overall out of 416 competitors and bested her previous personal-best time of 21:04.8 that she set at the Coaching Tree Invitational earlier this season.
• Senior Maggie Springer recorded the second-fastest time in school history at the meet as the Chapel Hill, N.C., native posted a personal-best time of 20:21.3. She would finish 44th overall.
• Madison Synowiec also broke into the program's top-10 performance list with her personal-best time of 20:31.4. The junior was 62nd overall.
• Zane Jackson led the maroon and gold men as the Charleston, S.C., native posted the third-fastest time in school history in the 8K with a 24:29.7. Jackson was 21st overall out of the field of 403 runners and has led the Phoenix in two of the three races so far this season.
• For her performance, Lorenz was named the Colonial Athletic Association's Women's Runner of the Week on Tuesday, Oct. 4. It was her second league weekly accolade of the season.
 
UP NEXT
The postseason portion of the schedule begins for the Phoenix at the 2022 Colonial Athletic Association Cross Country Championships. The meet will be hosted by the University of Delaware on Friday, Oct. 28, at the White Clay Creek State Park.
