Rogers tied for the team high with six tackles along with an interception, a sack and a quarterback hurry as the Elon defense shut out Delaware's high-powered offensive attack for the final 55 minutes of action.
Delaware took the opening kickoff and drove 75 yards for a touchdown to go ahead 7-0 but the Blue Hens never scored again. Elon answered with 27 consecutive points for its third win over a ranked opponent in 2022.
Rogers was all over the field for the Phoenix and helped Elon ice the game away. With Delaware driving into the red zone in the fourth quarter, Rogers intercepted a fourth-and-goal pass in the end zone, returning it 24 yards. On Delaware's final possession of the game just a few minutes later, he added a sack on third down that ended any rally effort by the Blue Hens.
Rogers becomes the fifth Elon football player to be recognized as a CAA Football Player of the Week in 2022, joining punter
Jeff Yurk (Special Teams POTW), defensive back
Marcus Hillman (Defensive POTW), tight end
Johncarlos Miller II (Rookie of the Week) and kicker
Skyler Davis (Special Teams POTW).
Elon will be at home once more Saturday as the Phoenix hosts UAlbany at 2 p.m. for Homecoming and Senior Day. The Phoenix is 4-0 at home this year and can post the program's first unbeaten home campaign since 1997 with a victory over the Great Danes.
