Elon Falls At Towson Saturday

TOWSON, MD. – Elon University men's basketball fell to Towson, 86-50, on Saturday, Feb. 12, at SECU Arena in Towson, Md.
 
THE RUNDOWN
- The Phoenix opened the scoring with a Michael Graham hook shot followed by two Chuck Hannah free throws to take an early 4-2 lead. From there, Towson used a 10-0 run to jump ahead, 12-4. A Hunter McIntosh triple brought the score to 12-7, but the Tigers responded with a 7-0 run to take a 19-7 lead.
- Elon battled back, outscoring Towson 8-4 over the next three minutes of game time to get back within seven. Sam Sherry's first points of the day followed by McIntosh's second three of the first half got the Phoenix within 19-12 with 10:27 remaining. After the Tigers knocked down a free throw to go up 20-12, Andrew Junkin dropped in his first bucket of the day followed by a layup from Hunter Woods to bring the score 23-16 with just under nine minutes remaining before halftime.
- Towson closed the first half on a 19-0 run to take a 42-16 lead into the break.
- With Elon trailing at the midway point of the second half, McIntosh knocked down a three followed by a quick layup from Michael Graham to spark a 14-4 Phoenix burst. Hannah kept things rolling with a tough mid-range jumper as the shot clock expired before Darius Burford spun past a Towson defender and found Graham wide open for a dunk. Zac Ervin capped the late spurt with a rare and-one three that brought the score to 73-37 with just over six minutes remaining.
- The Phoenix continued to battle down the stretch, going on another 8-2 rally in the final four minutes of action. Despite the late push, Towson held on to win 86-50.
 
NOTES
- Hunter McIntosh and Zac Ervin led the charge for the Phoenix, each dropping nine point and an assist in the loss.
-  Hunter Woods added six points and a team-high seven rebounds in 28 minutes, while Michael Graham finished with six points and one block.
- Andrew Junkin matched season-highs with six points and two blocks, adding two rebounds in 15 minutes.
- Sam Sherry continued his strong play of late, ending the night with five points and three rebounds in 15 minutes.
- RJ Noord set a new career-high with four points in the contest, adding one rebound in 11 minutes.  

UP NEXT
Elon returns to action on Tuesday, Feb. 15, when it hosts Hofstra at Schar Center. That contest is slated for a 7 p.m. tip and will be streamed live on FloSports.
