Outdoor Season Begins at High Point for Track & Field

ELON, N.C. – The Elon University women's track and field team will transition towards the outdoor season portion of its schedule as the Phoenix will compete at the Bob Davidson Memorial/Bill Webb Combined Events meet on March 18-19 on the campus of High Point University.

• Updates of the meet will be posted on the team's social media pages on Twitter and Instagram at the handle, @ElonXCTF.
• Live results will be provided and can be found on the program's schedule page at elonphoenix.com along with a recap and results at the conclusion of the meet.
• The meet will be streamed on ESPN+ beginning at 5 p.m. on Friday and 11:45 a.m. on Saturday.
 
THE FIELD
• There are 21 teams scheduled to compete on the women's side at the meet this weekend. Notable teams include Bryant, Duke, High Point, James Madison, Johnson C. Smith, Lafayette, Lipscomb, NC A&T, North Carolina, Saint Francis, UNCW and Wake Forest.

LAST TIME OUT
• The Phoenix concluded its indoor season with a strong showing at the 2022 ECAC Indoor Championships on March 5-6 in Boston. Elon scored 49 total points and finished third overall to earn its highest-place finish ever at the meet.
• Elon won the distance medley and the 4x400-meter relay at the ECACs with both groups setting new school records. The Phoenix DMR team of Anna Twomey, Milly Heinbaugh, Stephanie Lair and Jette Beermann clocked a school-record time of 11:35.14.
• In the 4x400-meter relay, the group of Aliya Barrows, Tessa DiPierdomenico, Riley Drometer and Piper Jons set a new program-best mark of 3:43.57 to also take gold in the race.
• Individually, the Phoenix also saw three athletes set new school-records. Twomey ran a new personal-best in the 1,000-meters with her time of 2:47.25 – breaking her own school-school record she set in the preliminary round.
• Senior Stephanie Lair broke the school-record in the 800-meters as the Portland, Ore., native ran a time of 2:08.63 in the prelims of the race. She would finish seventh overall in the finals with a time of 2:09.29.
Meghan Wilcox matched her school-record in the 60-meters, clocking a time of 7.64 in the prelims of the race. The freshman ran a time of 7.65 in the semifinals and just missed out on advancing to the finals.
• Beermann was third overall in the one-mile run as the freshman ran a personal-best time of 4:47.28 – the second-fastest in school history.
Madison George finished third in the pole vault to conclude the Phoenix's medalist winners. The junior cleared the bar at a height of 3.85m.
 
2021 OUTDOOR RECAP
• The Phoenix captured its third Colonial Athletic Association outdoor title last season. Elon scored 191.5 points to earn a 17.5-point victory for its third league title in the past seven seasons.
• Elon ended the meet with five individual conference championships with the Phoenix returning two of those champions this season in Maria Ahm (5,000-meters) and Carlton (discus).
• The Phoenix also welcomes back six All-CAA outdoor performers in Ahm, Carlton, George, Jons, Lair and Twomey. Elon also brings back three members of its 4x400-meter relay team that also earned All-CAA accolades in Barrows, Jons and Tudor.
• Ahm was named the CAA Rookie of the Year, becoming Elon's second athlete to earn the award. The Holbæk, Denmark, native set a school-record in the 10,000-meters with a time of 33:43.82 and finished 17th overall at the NCAA East Preliminaries.
• Elon Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Mark Elliston was named the CAA Coach of the Year for the third time in 2021. It was his fifth conference Coach of the Year honor overall during his career at Elon.
 
ON DECK
• The Phoenix heads to NC State for the prestigious Raleigh Relays on March 24-26.
