Elon Returns To Action For Doubleheader Against Bluefield State

ELON, N.C. – Elon University women's tennis returns to action on Friday, April 1, when it hosts Bluefield State College in a doubleheader beginning at 2:30 p.m. at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
 
GAMEDAY COVERAGE
- Friday's doubleheader will begin with doubles play at 2:30 p.m. with singles to follow shortly after.

THE MATCHUP
- Friday afternoon marks the first meeting between Elon and Bluefield State.
- The all-time series is currently tied 0-0.

SCOUTING ELON
- The Phoenix enters the contest with an 11-6 record after defeating UNCW, 5-2, in its most recent outing.
- Olivia Archer is leading the way for Elon, as the junior has racked up a team-high 11 wins this season and has won eight of her last ten matches.
- Julie Ball ranks second on the team in singles play, as she holds a 10-4 overall record and a 9-4 mark in the No. 4 slot this season. Ball has four won consecutive matches and 10 of her last 12 overall.
- Lizette Reding ranks third on the team in singles victories, as the sophomore holds eight wins this season. Reding currently sits at 2-0 in No. 1 singles, 5-3 in No. 2 singles and has won back-to-back matches.
- Sibel Tanik is currently fourth on the squad with seven singles wins on the year. Tanik holds a 7-5 mark overall and in the No.1 position.
- Alison O'Dea sits at fifth on the team in singles play, compiling six wins so far this year. O'Dea has at least one win in No. 3, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles.
- Shauna Galvin and Sarah Allen are the only Phoenix that are still undefeated in singles play, as Galvin holds a perfect 5-0  record early this season, while Allen moved to 1-0 and picked up her first career win against Pfeiffer.
- Victoria Saldh rounds out the singles wins for Elon with five.
- The tandem of Olivia Archer and Alison O'Dea is leading the way for the Phoenix in doubles play, as the pair holds a team-best 10-5 mark and has won 10 of its last 12 matches.
- The combination of Sibel Tanik and Lizette Reding ranks second on the team in doubles wins, as the duo has won nine matches this season. The duo has now won consecutive matches and four of its last five outings overall.
- Julie Ball and Victoria Saldh currently rank third on the team in doubles wins with eight after winning each of their two matches this past weekend.
- Olivia Archer and Alison O'Dea were named the CAA Doubles Team of the Week on March 2, after winning all three of their matches last week against North Carolina A&T, Methodist and Pfeiffer respectively.
- On Wednesday, Feb. 2, the CAA announced that junior Sibel Tanik was named its Player of the Week. It was the first honor of the season for the Phoenix and was the first Player of the Week award of Tanik's career.
- Four All-CAA selections return for the Phoenix in 2021-22 in Sibel Tanik (1st Team), Lizette Reding (Rookie of the Year; 2nd Team Singles; 3rd Team Doubles), Victoria Saldh (3rd Team Singles), and Alison O'Dea (3rd Team Doubles).
- Other returners for the Phoenix include Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sport Excellence Award recipient, Olivia Archer, and junior Shauna Galvin.
- The Phoenix is led by Elizabeth Anderson, who will begin her 18th season at the helm of the program in 2021-22.
 
SCOUTING BLUEFIELD STATE
- Bluefield State enters Friday's contest with a 1-10 overall record after falling to University of Charleston, 6-1, in its most recent outing.
- Bluefield State is led by Gracie Reed who is in his first season at the helm of the program. Reed played tennis collegiately at Milligan College and Radford.

LAST TIME OUT
- Elon won its second straight match on Saturday, March 26, defeating rival UNCW, 5-2, at Piedmont Indoor Courts in Greensboro, N.C.
- Julie Ball got the ball rolling in singles play for Elon, making quick work Lauren Gish 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 4 slot. The win marked the fourth straight for Ball and moved her to 10-4 overall on the year and 9-4 in No. 4 singles.
- Sibel Tanik extended Elon's lead to 3-0, finishing Sasha Belaya 6-2, 6-2 in No. 1 singles. The victory marked Tanik's seventh of the year and put her at 7-5 overall in singles play.
- Lizette Reding clinched the match for Elon, defeating Zoe Huffman 6-2, 6-4 in straight sets at No. 2. With the win Reding now has eight wins overall this season and sits at 5-3 in the No. 2 slot.
- Shauna Galvin rounded out the singles wins for the Phoenix, outlasting Sarah Merrill 7-6, 5-7, 10-4 in a three-set tiebreaker in the No. 6 position. It was Galvin's fifth win of the year and helped her maintain her undefeated singles record this season.
- The combination of Ball and Victoria Saldh got things going in doubles play, defeating Zoe Huffman and Stela Joksimovic 6-2 in the No. 2 position. With the win the combo now sits at 8-6 overall and moved to 7-6 in No. 2 doubles.
- The tandem of Tanik and Reding clinched the doubles point for Elon, outlasting Sasha Belaya and Lauren Gish 7-5 in the No. 1 spot. With the win the duo picked up its ninth win this year and earned its third win in four outings.
 
THE FACES OF 2021-22
- The Phoenix welcomes back six returners from last year's squad in seniors Olivia Archer and Victoria Saldh, juniors Shauna Galvin and Sibel Tanik, and sophomores Lizette Reding and Alison O'Dea.
- Elon will feature two newcomers this season in first-year Sarah Allen and Tennessee transfer Julie Ball.
- Allen joins the Phoenix from Christ Church Episcopal School, where she was a five-time team State Champion from 2016-2020 and earned four top-5 finishes at the All-State Singles Championships in 2017 (5th), 2018 (4th), 2019 (4th) and 2020 (2nd).
- Ball comes to Elon from the University of Tennessee where she earned Spring SEC Academic Honor Roll honors in 2020.
 
COMING SOON
- Elon returns to action with back-to-back road matchups against JMU (April 9) and UNC Greensboro (April 13) respectively.
- The Phoenix will be back at home on Saturday, April 16, when it hosts East Carolina on Senior Day at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
- Elon rounds out the regular season on Saturday, April 23, when it travels to Williamsburg, Va. for a matchup with William & Mary.
