RICHMOND, Va. – Coming off her historic perfect game on Sunday, Elon University softball freshman pitcher
Taylor Cherry has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week as announced by the league office on Tuesday morning, March 8.

The Suffolk, Va., native tossed the third perfect game in program history on Sunday, March 6, versus East Carolina in the Phoenix's 1-0 win over the Pirates. Cherry needed only 86 pitches for all 21 putouts in the contest while also setting a new career-high in strikeouts with 10.

Cherry also pitched 2.0 scoreless innings versus Big Ten opponent Michigan State, striking out three batters. She also threw 1.2 innings versus No. 19 Michigan.

Cherry becomes the second Phoenix player to receive weekly honors this year from the CAA.
McKenzie Weber was honored by the league on Feb. 22 as the Pitcher of the Week.

Elon is back in action this weekend, March 12-13, at the UNCG Spartan Classic versus the field of Delaware State, Saint Francis (Pa.) and Michigan State.
