RICHMOND, Va. – Elon University baseball's
Shea Sprague has been named the CAA's Co-Rookie of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday, April 11. This marks his second career weekly honor after being selected
CAA Co-Pitcher of the Week last Monday, April 4.
Sprague improved to 3-0 on the season after tossing seven scoreless frames in Game Two of Sunday's doubleheader at Northeastern, helping the Phoenix (15-16, 3-6 CAA) to a 1-0 win. The true freshman from Hanover, Mass. held the Huskies to a single with two walks. The seven innings pitched marked a new season best and he was just shy of tying his season high in strikeouts with five. The outing lowered his season ERA to a 0.85, which leads the CAA, and the win was his third in as many starts. Sprague retired 10 consecutive batters, did not allow a Northeastern baserunner to reach third base and had just one runner reach second. Additionally, Sprague's outing on Sunday landed him on D1 Baseball's
Top Performers List. He hasn't given up a run since a March 5 game versus Toledo.
Elon opens an eight-game homestand tomorrow as the Phoenix hosts East Carolina for a 6 p.m. game at Latham Park.
