ELON, N.C. – Elon University baseball has a non-conference series versus UNC Asheville this Friday and Saturday, April 15-16 at Latham Park. The Phoenix (15-17, 3-6 CAA) and Bulldogs (12-17, 7-5 Big South) open with a 5 p.m. game on Friday and will play a doubleheader on Saturday starting at noon.

THE SERIES
- Elon is ahead in the all-time series, 28-5.

- The Phoenix is looking to win its third straight game against the Bulldogs.
- Elon and UNCA last played each other on April 25, 2007 at Latham Park, a game that went to the Phoenix 7-4.
- Daniel Britt improved to 1-1 after holding the Bulldogs to two runs (one earned) through six complete innings of work. He allowed five hits and one walk while striking out two batters. At the plate, Pat Irvine hit 3-for-3 with a triple, a double, one run, an RBI and a walk. Adam Weaver went 2-for-2, scored twice, drove in one run and earned a base on balls. Jordy Snyder doubled, walked once, drove in a run and swiped two bases in a 1-for-3 outing. Chris Dove finished 1-for-5 with a triple, two RBIs, a run and three stolen bases.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
- UNCA was picked to finish ninth in the Big South Preseason Coaches' Poll with 38 points.
- The Bulldogs are coming off a Big South series win over North Carolina A&T this past weekend in Asheville, N.C. After the Aggies took the series opener 6-5 in 11 innings last Friday, UNCA bounced back with an 11-4 final on Saturday and took the rubber match 13-6 on Sunday.
- Robbie Burnett was chosen as the Big South Rookie of the Week on Monday. He hit .385 (5-for-13) with six runs scored, four RBIs, one double, one home run and three walks in Asheville's series win over the Aggies.
- UNCA was scheduled to play at home against Western Carolina on Tuesday, but the game was canceled.
- Dominic Freeberger (.373) and Robbie Burnett (.322) have the hot bats for the Bulldogs.
- Freeberger leads the team in slugging percentage (.509), on-base percentage (.470), hits (41), runs scored (21), doubles (11), triples (2), total bases (56) and walks (19).
- Dylan Bacot (.262) has stolen four bases in as many attempts. Burnett is 3-for-4 and Ty Kaufman (.238) is 3-for-3.
- As a team, the Bulldogs are batting .234 with a .321 slugging percentage and a .351 on-base percentage.
- UNCA's expected starting rotation will see right handers Zeus Ponder and Ryan Douglas and lefty Jacob Edwards.
- Asheville's pitchers own a combined 6.47 ERA with teams hitting .302 against them. The Bulldogs have recorded 203 strikeouts while issuing 151 walks through 249.0 innings.
- Like the Phoenix, the Bulldogs are also pretty good at turning double plays this season. UNCA ranks third nationally with 1.10 double plays per game and is eighth with 32 total double plays.
- Justin Honeycutt is ninth in the country with a 1.23 ERA and Edwards is 26th in games started with eight.
ABOUT THE PHOENIX
- Elon and East Carolina met for the second time this season on Tuesday, with the Pirates taking the game 7-1.
- Starter Liam Dabagian fell to 1-1 after giving up two runs on five hits. The left hander from Media, Pa. did not walk anyone and struck out three in 1.2 innings pitched. Griffin Arnone led the Phoenix offense as he doubled and walked once in a 3-for-3 outing. His three-hit performance marked a new career high and was his second multi-hit game of the season.
- Alex Iadisernia is batting .339 to lead Elon at the plate and Connor Coolahan follows with a .302 average. Charlie Granatell is approaching the .300 mark with a .297 clip.
- Iadisernia owns the team highs in slugging percentage (.583), hits (39), doubles (10), triples (3), RBIs (32), total bases (67) and walks (21).
- Elon has stolen 43 bases on 53 attempts. Leading the Phoenix in swiped bags are Justin Cassella (13-for-16), Iadisernia (8-for-9) and Granatell (6-for-8).
- The Phoenix owns a combined .233 batting average with a .358 slugging percentage and a .350 on-base percentage.
- Ian Evans, Brian Edgington and Shea Sprague will start on the mound this weekend.
- Elon pitchers have totaled 272 strikeouts against 75 walks in 284.2 innings this season. The Phoenix is allowing opponents to hit .282 and owns a combined ERA of 4.05.
- Through games played on April 13, the maroon and gold ranks third in the country in walks allowed per nine innings (2.37), fifth in double plays (33), sixth in strikeout-to-walk ratio (3.63) and seventh in double plays per game (1.03). - Iadisernia's six sac flies rank third nationally and he is also 32nd with three triples. Carlos Marte is 15th in sac bunts per game (0.24) and 18th in sac bunts (6), Coolahan is 19th in on-base percentage (.516), Edgington ranks 26th in games started (8) and Granatell is 31st in sac flies (4).
FAMILIAR FACE
- UNCA Assistant Coach Chris Bresnahan played at Elon from 2010-13.
- The Freehold, N.J. native hit .247 (72-for-292) with one triple, six doubles, 51 runs scored, 29 RBIs, 48 walks and seven stolen bases in his time as a Phoenix.
- Bresnahan helped Elon win the 2013 SoCon Championship and earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. He was named to the Charlottesville All-Regional Team after batting .385 (5-for-13). He drove in three runs and scored two more through four games.
