Elon Set For Saturday Road Trip To William & Mary

ELON, N.C. – Elon University women's tennis returns to action on Saturday, April 23, when it travels to Williamsburg, Va. for its regular-season finale at 12 p.m. against William & Mary.
 
GAMEDAY COVERAGE
- Saturday's action will begin with doubles play at 2 p.m. with singles to follow shortly after.

THE MATCHUP
- Saturday afternoon marks the seventh meeting between Elon and William & Mary.
- Elon currently trails in the all-time series 1-5.
- In the most recent meeting between the two programs, Elon fell to William & Mary, 4-0, on April 24, 2021 at the CAA Tournament in Williamsburg, Va.
- The Phoenix's most recent win against the Tribe came earlier that season when Elon took home a narrow 4-3 victory on April 3, 2021.

SCOUTING ELON
- The Phoenix enters the contest with a 15-7 record after defeating ECU, 4-1, in its most recent outing.
- Olivia Archer is leading the way for Elon, as the junior has racked up a team-high 15 wins this season and has won eight of her last ten matches. The senior also holds a perfect 5-0 mark in the No. 4 position this season.
- Julie Ball ranks second on the team in singles play, as she holds a 12-5 overall record and a 10-5 mark in the No. 4 slot this season. Ball has won six of her last seven matches overall.
- Sibel Tanik is currently tied for second on the team in singles wins, racking up 12 on the year. Tanik holds a 12-5 mark in No. 1 singles and extended her winning streak to seven after winning her match last weekend.
- Lizette Reding ranks third for the Phoenix in singles play, posting a 10-8 overall record, including a 7-4 mark in the No. 2 spot. Reding also currently sits at 2-0 in No. 1 singles and has won four of her last five matches.
- Alison O'Dea sits in a tie for fifth in singles play, compiling seven wins so far this year. O'Dea has at least one win in No. 3, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles and has won back-to-back matches.
- Shauna Galvin moved into a tie for fifth in singles wins, as she holds an 8-1 mark overall. Galvin has won seven of her eight matches in straight sets, is 3-0 in the No. 5 position and 5-1 in the No. 6 spot this season.
- Victoria Saldh currently holds a 7-11 overall mark in singles play with a 4-5 record in the No. 2 slot and has won three of her last five matches.
- Sarah Allen remains undefeated in singles play, as she holds a perfect 2-0 mark overall and in the No. 6 slot this season.
- The combination of Sibel Tanik and Lizette Reding is leading the way for Elon in doubles play, as the duo has won 12 matches this season. The combo has won five consecutive matches and seven of its last eight outings overall.
- The tandem of Olivia Archer and Alison O'Dea ranks second on the team in doubles wins, as the pair holds a 11-7 mark overall this year.
- Julie Ball and Victoria Saldh currently rank third on the team in doubles wins with nine. The tandem sits at 1-0 in the No. 1 doubles position and has won three of its last five contests.
- Olivia Archer and Alison O'Dea were named the CAA Doubles Team of the Week on March 2, after winning all three of their matches last week against North Carolina A&T, Methodist and Pfeiffer respectively.
- On Wednesday, Feb. 2, the CAA announced that junior Sibel Tanik was named its Player of the Week. It was the first honor of the season for the Phoenix and was the first Player of the Week award of Tanik's career.
- Four All-CAA selections return for the Phoenix in 2021-22 in Sibel Tanik (1st Team), Lizette Reding (Rookie of the Year; 2nd Team Singles; 3rd Team Doubles), Victoria Saldh (3rd Team Singles), and Alison O'Dea (3rd Team Doubles).
- Other returners for the Phoenix include Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sport Excellence Award recipient, Olivia Archer, and junior Shauna Galvin.
- The Phoenix is led by Elizabeth Anderson, who will begin her 18th season at the helm of the program in 2021-22.
 
SCOUTING WILLIAM & MARY
- William & Mary enters Saturday's contest with an 9-8 overall record after defeating Richmond, 6-1, in its most recent outing.
- The Tribe is led by Jessica Giuggioli who is in her first season at the helm of the program. Giuggioli was previously the head coach at Radford and ULM prior to taking over at William & Mary.
- Mila Saric is leading the way for the Tribe on the court, posting a 13-3 dual match record in No. 1 singles so far this season.
- The combination of Elisa Van Meeteren and Raffaela Alhach holds the top mark for William & Mary in doubles play, posting a 7-4 record overall and in the No. 2 slot.

LAST TIME OUT
- Elon outlasted East Carolina, 4-1, in a hard-fought match on Saturday, April 16, at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
- Sibel Tanik got the ball rolling for the Phoenix, making quick work of Isabella Rivera Ortiz in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1. Tanik is now on a seven-match winning streak and sits at 12-5 overall in No. 1 singles play.
- Alison O'Dea clinched the match for Elon, battling back to defeat Ines Bachir 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 in No. 4 singles. With the win, O'Dea now sits at 8-8 overall this season, 2-0 in No. 4 singles and has won back-to-back matches.
- Olivia Archer continued her strong play of late, taking down Anne Lou Champion 6-3, 6-0 to secure her fourth win in five contests. Archer picked up her team-leading 15th singles victory of the season in the match and now sits at 6-5 in the No. 5 position.
- Shauna Galvin rounded out the singles wins for the Phoenix, outlasting Laura Becker 6-2, 6-4 in the No. 6 spot. The win moved Galvin to 8-1 overall on the season.
- Victoria Saldh fought back to force a tiebreaking third set in No. 3 singles, winning set two over Alisha Hussain 7-6 after falling 1-6 in the opening set. Saldh also held a 1-0 lead in the decisive third set before the match went unfinished due to Elon clinching the victory.
- The tandem of Tanik and Reding led the way for Elon in doubles play, as the duo held a 5-4 lead over Bachir and Hussain in No. 1 singles prior to the match going unfinished due to ECU clinching the doubles point.

THE FACES OF 2021-22
- The Phoenix welcomes back six returners from last year's squad in seniors Olivia Archer and Victoria Saldh, juniors Shauna Galvin and Sibel Tanik, and sophomores Lizette Reding and Alison O'Dea.
- Elon will feature two newcomers this season in first-year Sarah Allen and Tennessee transfer Julie Ball.
- Allen joins the Phoenix from Christ Church Episcopal School, where she was a five-time team State Champion from 2016-2020 and earned four top-5 finishes at the All-State Singles Championships in 2017 (5th), 2018 (4th), 2019 (4th) and 2020 (2nd).
- Ball comes to Elon from the University of Tennessee where she earned Spring SEC Academic Honor Roll honors in 2020.
 
COMING SOON
- The Phoenix will prepare for the upcoming CAA Women's Tennis Tournament, set to begin on Friday, April 29, at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center on Elon's campus.
