ELON, N.C. – The Elon University women's track and field team had a successful day with split squads competing at the Virginia Challenge and the Aggie Classic on Friday, April 22. The Phoenix saw two event victories and several personal-records set between the two meets.
 
THE RUNDOWN – Aggie Classic
Majority of the Phoenix track and field squad competed at the Aggie Classic at North Carolina A&T on Friday. Kaitlin McGoogan won gold in the discus throw with a toss of 48.01m. Teammate Lauryn Carlton was third overall with a toss of 42.88m.

Grace Dieleman won the second event title for Elon in the javelin throw with a toss of 34.94m. Hollie Thurgood was seventh overall with a mark of 30.66m.
 
Both Riley Drometer and Tessa DiPierdomenico set new personal-records in the 400-meter hurdles with Drometer leading the Phoenix with her time of 1:02.45 in ninth while DiPierdomenico was 10^th at her time of 1:02.70.
 
In the women's long jump, Alexa Mark finished fifth overall with her new personal-best jump of 5.62m. Piper Jons was sixth in the 200-meters with a time of 24.29, just shy of her personal-best of 24.25.
 
THE RUNDOWN – Virginia Challenge
The Phoenix had select members of its distance squad competing at the Virginia Challenge on Friday. Leandra Lorenz ran a new personal-best in the 1,500-meters Invite race, coming across the line with a time of 4:19.73 in 16^th overall.
 
Anna Twomey also set a new personal-best in the regular 1,500-meters as the junior clocked a time of 4:21.22 as the runner-up in the race. Jette Beermann also ran a personal-best in the race as the freshman had a time of 4:27.55.

Maggie Springer set a new personal-record in the 5,000-meters as the junior clocked a time of 16:31.94 in 15th overall.
 
In the Invite portion of the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Hannah Miller ran a time of 10:35.46. Hannah Preeo clocked a season-best time of 11:08.63 in the non-Invite steeplechase. Maria Ahm was fifth in the 10,000-meters with a time of 34:07.87.
