RICHMOND, Va. – Elon University baseball's
Charlie Granatell has been named the CAA Rookie of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday, May 16. This marks the first career weekly honor for Granatell and the sixth weekly honor for the Phoenix (25-23, 9-11 CAA) this season.
A freshman from Franklin Lakes, N.J., Granatell hit .400 (6-for-15) with a 1.200 slugging percentage and a .500 on-base percentage to help the Phoenix to a 3-1 record last week. His weekly totals included three home runs with seven runs scored, one double, one triple, 10 RBIs, two walks and one stolen base. Last Tuesday against North Carolina A&T, he hit a two-run homer, tripled, walked once and scored three times as the Phoenix defeated the Aggies, 8-3. In Sunday's rubber match versus Towson, he was a triple shy of hitting for the cycle with a grand slam, a two-run homer, a double and a single. He also scored three runs, drove in seven and swiped a bag. The effort helped secure a 2-1 series win over the Tigers and clinch Elon's spot in the upcoming CAA Championship tournament on May 25-29 at Latham Park.
Elon rounds out the regular season at home against William & Mary this Thursday-Saturday, May 19-21.
