ELON, N.C. – Elon University baseball's Trevor Kirk was taken off the board on Tuesday, July 19 as the New York Yankees selected him with the 610th pick of the 20th round in the 2022 MLB Draft. Kirk is the second Phoenix to be selected this year after teammate Alex Iadisernia went to the St. Louis Cardinals in the seventh round on Monday.
 
A right-handed pitcher, Kirk posted an 0-2 record with a 6.49 ERA through three starts and 17 appearances this past spring. He finished the season third on the team in strikeouts with 42. A Preseason All-CAA honoree heading into the 2022 campaign, he went 4-1 with a 3.28 ERA in 19 appearances and one start in 2021. He was third on the team with 51 strikeouts that year while holding opposing batters to a .204 average. The Wake Forest, N.C. native finishes his time at Elon 5-3 overall with a 4.83 ERA across four starts and 42 appearances. He recorded 106 strikeouts against 34 walks while wearing the maroon and gold and held opponents to a .255 average.

Primarily in a setup role for the Phoenix, he set career highs at William & Mary on April 18, 2021 with nine strikeouts and 5.1 innings pitched while holding the Tribe to two runs (one earned) on two hits and one walk. On May 26 at the 2021 CAA Championship Tournament, he earned the win over fifth-seeded W&M with 4.1 scoreless innings in relief. Kirk struck out five, allowed one hit and didn't issue a walk. He was just shy of both career bests this season with eight punch outs in a five-inning start against Longwood on Feb. 25 this season.

Kirk is also the third CAA player to be drafted by the Yankees this year after the Bronx Bombers selected Northeastern pitchers Cam Schlittler in the seventh round (three picks after Iadisernia) and Sebastian Keane in the 18th round.
