THE MATCHUP
  • Friday will mark the ninth meeting between Elon and Campbell.
  • The Phoenix trails the all-time series 6-2 but won the last meeting between the teams 4-3 on Feb. 12, 2022.
  • Elon has won its last two meetings against Campbell after losing the first six matchups in the series.
  • This will be the last meeting between the teams before Campbell joins the Colonial Athletic Association prior to the 2023-24 season.
ABOUT THE PHOENIX
  • Elon is coming off a strong season in 2022 in which it went 17-9 and finished as the runner-up at the CAA Championship.
  • The returnees include graduate Olivia Archer (All-CAA third team in singles); seniors Julie BallShauna Galvin and Sibel Tanik (All-CAA first team in singles and second team in doubles) and junior Lizette Reding (All-CAA second team in singles and doubles).
  • The Phoenix also welcomes three newcomers in sophomore Miray Konar — a transfer from Western Carolina — and freshmen Madison Cordisco and Helen Sarikulaya. Konar, from Izmir, Turkey, went 7-5 in singles and 10-6 in doubles while playing primarily in the No. 2 spot for the Catamounts last season. A Pittsburgh native, Cordisco was considered a five-star recruit by tennisrecruiting.net. Sarikulaya, from Rockville, Md., was also a five-star recruit and reached as high as No. 7 in the USTA Girls' 18 national standings.
  • Elon is led by Elizabeth Anderson, who is beginning her 19th season at the helm.
LAST TIME OUT
  • Elon kicked off its spring season on Jan. 13 against No. 2 North Carolina, falling 5-2 at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center in Chapel Hill.
  • The Tar Heels won Nos. 1 and 2 doubles to clinch the doubles point.
  • Ball clinched Elon's first singles victory of the season with a 6-1, 6-1 decision against North Carolina's Lindsay Zink in the No. 5 spot.
  • Archer rallied to win a back-and-forth third set of her singles match on Court 6, earning a 6-2, 1-6, 6-4 victory. The win was the 56th of Archer's career, moving her into a tie for fourth in Division I singles wins at Elon with Bryn Khoury (2011-2014).
  • Tanik battled to win the opening set of her singles match 7-5 against North Carolina's Fiona Crawley, who is currently the No. 1 ranked player in the ITA singles rankings. Up 6-5 in the set, Tanik trailed 15-40 but won the next three points to secure a first-set victory. Crawley forced a third set with a 6-3 win in the second and won the match with a 10-5 victory in a deciding tiebreaker.
  • Cordisco and Sarikulaya both made their dual match debut for the Phoenix. The two freshmen paired up in the No. 3 doubles spot and competed in singles.
SCOUTING CAMPBELL
  • Campbell enters Friday's match with an 0-1 record, having also lost its season opener in a road match against No. 2 North Carolina on Jan. 16, 7-0.

  • Junior Mariana Ossa and sophomore Mialy Ranaivo are Campbell's top returning singles winners from last season, as both players posted 12 victories in the team's 2022 spring campaign.
  • The Camels are led by head coach Mike Stevens, who is in his fourth year leading the program.
