Elon Impresses On First Evening Of Competition At Liberty

Lynchburg, Va. – The Elon University indoor track & field team competed in just four events Friday evening at Liberty University's Brant Tolsma Invitational, but the Phoenix posted strong results in each of them. Elon will put in a full day of action Saturday to conclude the meet.

INTO THE RECORD BOOKS
  • Piper Jons ran a personal best time of 24.69 seconds in the 200 to place second out of 47 runners. Her time is the second-fastest in school history and has been beaten by just two runners this year in the CAA entering the weekend.
  • Linn Hertz Saebboe set an indoor personal best distance in the long jump with a leap of 18-feet-4.25 (5.59m). That mark ties her for seventh in school history and moves her up to sixth in the CAA this year.
  • In the pole vault, Lizzie Lopez set a new personal best with a distance of 10-4 (3.15m). That ranks eighth in school history and has her in the conference top 15.
  • Freshman Chelsea Wallace was ninth in the weight throw, third among Elon competitors, but climbed in the program's top 10 in school history. She threw 52-1.25 (15.88m) to climb to ninth. Lauryn Carlton, who placed third, and Kaitlin McGoogan, who finished seventh, already rank as the top two in school history in the event.
