Richmond, Va. – Elon University's
Piper Jons and
Madison George swept the CAA Track & Field Athlete of the Week honors as Jons was named Track Athlete of the Week and George earned Field Athlete of the Week, as announced today.
For Jons, it is the second time this year she has been named CAA Track Athlete of the Week. Over the weekend, she recorded a league-leading and indoor personal best time of 24.32 in the 200 at Clemson's Bob Pollock Invitational. She added a time of 55.34 seconds in the 400, ranking second in the CAA this year. Finally, she ran the anchor leg on Elon's 1600 relay team that posted a time of 3:49.66.
George earned Field Athlete of the Week honors for the first time in her career. The Goldwater Scholarship recipient cleared a season-best height of 12-feet-6 (3.81m) in the pole vault. That mark sits atop the conference leaderboard through the midway point of the indoor season. She was less the six inches shy of her career-best height of 12-11.5 (3.95m).
The two-time defending CAA outdoor track & field champions, Elon will return to action this weekend. The team will take part in the Camel City Invitational at JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C. The meet is scheduled for Friday and Saturday.
