PALM CITY, FL – The Elon University men's golf team shot the second lowest score in Tuesday's final round of the Advance Golf Partners Classic to finish fifth. UNC Greensboro hosted the event at the par-72, 7,169-yard Hammock Creek Golf Club.

The Phoenix carded a 6-under par 282 in the final round, which tied for the second-lowest team score of the week. Elon finished the week with a 54-hole total of 874 and was one of five teams to finish with a score of 10-over par or lower. Drexel won the tournament and was the only team to finish under par for the week with a 1-under 863. UNCG placed second with an 866 and DePaul came in third with an 869 after shooting the lowest round of the tournament (280) on Tuesday. 
 
"Today was a great round for Elon golf," head coach Don Hill said. "Unfortunately, we started in too deep of a hole. I believe we got within one or two of the lead on two different occasions but never really could get over the hump."
 
Three Elon players finished in the top 25, led by Matthew Doyle, who shot Tuesday's low round (65) to move up 13 spots on the leaderboard. 
 
"I'm very proud of the boys. They looked themselves in the mirror after round one and the finish of round two and fought back," Hill continued.
 
HIGHLIGHTS

• With a 7-under par 65, Matthew Doyle posted the lowest round of the day by two shots to soar into a tie for second place. The sophomore carded nine birdies on the day, including four in a row on holes 10-13. The finish is Doyle's best of the season and his fourth top 10 result. Doyle ranked No. 2 in the field in par-3 scoring average for the week (2.75) and paced Elon in par-4 scoring average (4.03). 
• Juan Callejo Ropero posted his best score of the week on Tuesday, finishing with a 5-under par 67 to vault into a tie for 13^th place. After a double bogey on his fifth hole of the day, the sophomore responded with six birdies to tie his best round of the season.
• Garrett Risner shot a final-round 75 to finish in a tie for 24^th place. The junior led Elon for the week in par-5 scoring average (4.58). 
• Bronson Myers and Landon Durham both registered rounds of 75. Myers made three birdies on Tuesday and placed in a tie for 66^th, while Durham was 5-under par through his first 11 holes before a tough finish moved him back into a tie for 77^th.  
• Competing as an individual, Oliver Rotermund shot an even-par 72 in the final round to finish in a tie for 28^th, the best finish of his freshman season thus far. 
• As a team, Elon led the field for the week in par-3 scoring average (3.05).
• The Phoenix's 54 birdies were the most in the field and seven more than the next closest team. 
• Elon was one of five teams to finish the tournament with two eagles. Risner made them both over a four-hole span during Monday's second round. 

 
UP NEXT
The Phoenix will have a month off before competing at the Ross Collegiate Classic on March 13-14. 
 
"It's been a whirlwind few weeks – Sea Island, Ponte Vedra, Kiawah Island and now Palm Beach," Hill continued. "I look forward to returning home and getting back into our practice routine, in the weight room and in the classroom as we begin our preparation for the back half of the spring semester. This group has a chance to do some really special things."
