ELON, N.C. – For the second time in three weeks,
Sibel Tanik has been selected as the Colonial Athletic Association's Player of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday.
Tanik went 2-0 in the No. 1 position over the weekend for the Phoenix, helping the team split a pair of matches. The senior defeated Clemson's Eleni Louka 6-0, 5-7, 12-10 on Saturday for her first singles win against an Atlantic Coast Conference opponent since joining the Phoenix.
"We completed well and had some very close matches against a strong Clemson team," head coach
Elizabeth Anderson said. "I'm very proud of Sibel for showing so much grit and resilience to win a great match."
On Sunday, Tanik clinched Elon's match against Gardner-Webb with a 6-1, 6-4 victory against Manon Delsol. The Raleigh, N.C., native is now 5-1 in singles this season and has won her last five matches. She has won 15 of her last 18 completed singles matches dating back to last season.
Tanik also took home CAA Player of the Week honors on Feb. 1. This is the third straight week she has earned a CAA weekly award, as her and
Lizette Reding won CAA Doubles Team of the Week on Feb. 8.
Elon returns to action tomorrow with a 2 p.m. match against Longwood at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
