ELON, N.C. – For the second time this season,
Matthew Doyle has earned a Colonial Athletic Association weekly honor, as the league announced on Wednesday that the Elon sophomore has been named Co-Men's Golfer of the Week.
Doyle finished in a tie for second yesterday at the Advance Golf Partners Classic in Palm City, Fla. He shot a final round 65, the lowest round of the day by two shots and the second lowest round of the tournament, to move up 13 spots on the leaderboard. It was his best career finish and his fourth top-10 result of the season.
The Summerville, S.C., native made 15 birdies, tied with teammate
Juan Callejo Ropero for the most in the field. He also ranked No. 2 in the field in par-3 scoring average (2.75) and paced Elon in par-4 scoring average (4.03).
Doyle was previously named CAA Men's Golfer of the Week on Nov. 2, 2022, after a solo third place at the Grandover Collegiate.
Sharing the honor with Doyle is Drexel junior Drue Nicholas, who also finished in a tie for second at the Advance Golf Partners Classic.
The Phoenix finished fifth at the Advance Golf Partners Classic with a final-round 282, tied for the second lowest round in the event. Elon returns to competition at the Ross Collegiate Classic on March 13-14.
