RICHMOND, Va. – Senior Claudia Penny of the Elon University softball team was selected as the Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Week as announced by the league office on Tuesday, Feb. 21.
 
Penny batted .333 (5-for-15) in the Phoenix's five games last week. The Apex, N.C., native drove in five RBI with three doubles and posted a .412 on-base percentage. She had a hit in four of the Phoenix's five games including a going 2-for-3 versus Saint Francis on Saturday. She also had a pair of doubles and three RBI in that contest. Penny closed out the weekend with an RBI double and a run scored in the Phoenix's 8-2 win over former CAA foe James Madison on Sunday.
 
The Phoenix returns to the diamond to face NC State on Wednesday, Feb. 22, in Raleigh. That game is set for a 5 p.m. first pitch.
