JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. – Matthew Doyle sits two shots off the lead while Garrett Risner is just three back as the Elon University men's golf team completed play Monday at the Battle at Briar's Creek. College of Charleston is hosting the tournament at the par-72, 7,175-yard Golf Club at Briar's Creek. 

TOURNAMENT SCORING
 
Play was suspended on the back nine of the second round because of darkness. The second round will resume tomorrow morning. The first round was completed earlier in the day.
 
Elon carded a 9-over par 297 in the opening round but is currently even par in its second round and alone in sixth place with four players needing to finish four holes or less. UNC Wilmington is currently in the lead at 7-under par. 
 
After posting a 3-over 75 in his opening round, Doyle has played the first 16 holes of his second round at 6-under with seven birdies to vault into a tie for fifth place. An opening round 69 had Risner in a share for the lead after 18 holes and he currently sits in a tie for 10^th with three holes to complete in his second round. 
 
HIGHLIGHTS

• Matthew Doyle is working on what could be the low round of the tournament thus far, as he is 6-under with just two holes to play in his second round. The lowest score of the opening round was 69 and there are currently only three players on the course currently at 5-under or 4-under par in their second rounds. Doyle's nine birdies in the tournament are tied for the third most in the field and his 3.84 par-4 scoring average is currently the fourth lowest. 
• Garrett Risner posted a 3-under par 69 in the opening round to grab a share of the lead, carding four birdies to just one bogey. The junior is currently tied for second in the field in par-3 scoring average (2.88) and tied for sixth in pars (25). 
• Two Phoenix players are currently tied for 49^th – Juan Callejo Ropero and Oliver Rotermund. An eagle on the par-4 12^th hole in the second round highlighted Rotermund's day, as the freshman is one of seven players to record an eagle in the tournament thus far. 
• As a team, Elon ranks fourth in par-3 scoring (3.15).
