SNOW HILL, N.C. – Sophomore Matthew Doyle finished third on the individual leaderboard as the Elon University men's golf team placed seventh at the Cutter Creek Intercollegiate on Sunday. Elon and East Carolina co-hosted the tournament at the 7,280-yard, par-72 Cutter Creek Golf Club.
Elon carded a 4-over par 292 in the final round to finish with a 54-hole total of 888 (+24). East Carolina won the event with a total score of 868 (+4), while Jacksonville State placed second with a 54-hole score of 869 (+5).
HIGHLIGHTS
- Matthew Doyle shot a 2-over par 74 in the final round to place third and finished the event with a team-high 12 birdies. He led the team in par-3 scoring average (2.92) and par-4 scoring average (3.97). This is Doyle's fifth straight top-10 finish and sixth on the season.
- As an individual, Oliver Rotermund carded four birdies to post a 73 in the final round. The freshman tied his lowest score on the season (222) and finished the tournament tied for 14th at 6-over par.
- Bronson Myers finished tied for 27th, posting 9-over par 225. He led the team in pars with 35 and was second on the team in par-3 scoring average (3.17).
- Garrett Risner delivered his best score of the tournament in the final round with a 2-over par 73. The sophomore finished tied for 27th carding a 9-over par 225. He finished second on the team in par-4 scoring average (4.10)
- Sophomore Jennings Glenn carded his tournament-best score with a 75 in the final round. He finished in 56th place shooting a 16-over par (232) and led the team in par-5 scoring average (4.58).
- As a team, Elon finished second in the tournament for total birdies with 50.
UP NEXT
The Phoenix will head to Cary N.C. later this week to compete in the Stitch Intercollegiate on April 6-8. This will be Elon's final tournament of the regular season.
