Phoenix Concludes Competition At Liberty Kickoff

Lynchburg, Va. – On the first full day of the 2024-25 Elon indoor track & field season, the Phoenix set the foundation for the year ahead. Senior transfers Arianna Alexander and Jazlyn Jefferson each posted top five performances in program history at the Liberty Kickoff Friday.

Alexander recorded the third-fastest time in school history in the 60 and Jefferson posted the fourth-best triple jump performance. The Phoenix also had numerous personal bests as well as seeing debut performances from newcomers.

ENTERING THE RECORD BOOK
  • Arianna Alexander transferred to Elon after five years at Cal State Northridge and made an immediate impact Friday. CSUN's school record holder in the 60 made an early push in the event for the Phoenix. She ran 7.64 seconds in the prelims and then 7.68 in the finals. Her times were just shy of Elon's record of 7.57 seconds.
  • Jazlyn Jefferson joined Elon for the outdoor track & field season a year ago but is taking part in her final indoor season of eligibility this winter. A transfer from Hampton, Jefferson leaped 39-feet-7 (12.07m), the fourth-best effort in program history. She is seven inches shy of the program record of 40-2 (12.24m).
  • In the nontraditional 500 race, Elon saw three underclassmen enter the top 10 list. Sophomore Shayla Cann paced the Phoenix with a time of 1:16.86 for No. 7 in school history. Freshman Gabi Walker was right behind at 1:17.47 and sophomore Jenna Gilman followed at 1:17.51.

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
  • Stavriana Adamou qualified for the finals in the 60 hurdles with a time of 8.82 seconds. She improved to 8.68 seconds in finals and placed fourth overall. In the same event, freshman Mia Stimpson ran 9.03 seconds, just .01 seconds shy of entering Elon's top 10.
  • Katie Blount won the 3,000 with a time of 9:43.33 and three others posted new personal best times. Abby Beville was second overall at 9:47.80 and Sarah Petitjean finished fourth in 9:57.28. Cami Glebocki also had a PR in 10:22.14.
  • Elon also had three PRs in the shot put. Tristin Oberg threw 40-feet-1.25 (12.23m) for a new indoor PR and Adriana Clarke also recorded an indoor PR at 39-9.75 (12.14m). Julia Edler took a step forward from her collegiate debut in November with a toss of 34-8.5 (10.58m).
  • In the high jump, Hannah Schonhoff tied her personal best, clearing 5-6.75 (1.70m). Katherine Faddis recorded an indoor PR by leaping 4-9 (1.45m).
  • In the triple jump, Nevaeh Kimmie had a collegiate best of 34-10 (10.62m).

UP NEXT
  • Elon will have four runners competing in the 5,000 at Boston University's Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener Saturday afternoon at 4:45 p.m.
  • The Phoenix will then be off until returning to competition at the Mondo College Invitational at JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem on Jan. 18.
