Mikayla Jones broke the school record in the 5,000 and the Elon indoor track & field team recorded three of the nine fastest times in the event in program history Saturday at Boston University's Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener.
Elon ran just the 5,000 and the four Phoenix competitors all set personal bests.
Jones, a senior transfer from Catawba, set a new personal best time of 16:24.07, which was almost 30 seconds faster than her previous indoor PR. It was almost 11 seconds faster than Elon's previous school record of 16:35.02 set by Maria Ahm in 2021 at the Liberty Kickoff.
Following Jones, sophomore
Hannah Weber ran 16:48.64 for the eighth-fastest time in program history. She easily outpaced her previous PR time of 17:25.45.
Senior
Madison Synowiec recorded the ninth-fastest time in program history by running the 5,000 in 16:52.39. She was 21 seconds faster than her previous PR of 17:13.96.
Finally, senior transfer
Mariana Martinez ran 17:10.40. A former runner at TCU, Martinez previously had a career fastest time of 17:29.07.
The Elon indoor track & field team will now be off until competing in the Mondo College Invitational Jan. 18 at JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem.
