RICHMOND, Va. – Following a 2-0 week at No. 1 singles for the Elon University men's tennis team,
Veljko Krstic has been selected as the CAA Co-Player of the Week, as announced by the conference on Tuesday.
Krstic won a pair of three-set matches against Charlotte and No. 45 Liberty last week. Against Charlotte, who had been ranked in the previous week's ITA rankings, Krstic came from a set and 5-2 down to defeat Spencer Gray 6-7 (9), 7-5, 6-4. Then, against Liberty, he came from a set down again to beat Rafael Marques Da Silva, the No. 102 ranked player in last week's singles rankings, by a 1-6, 6-2, 7-5 score.
The wins were the third and fourth for Krstic this season in either a match tiebreak or full final set. With the victories, the sophomore has now won seven contests at the No. 1 position on the season and has reached double-digit wins for the second consecutive year. He is 6-2 in his last eight completed matches, with five of those wins coming at the No. 1 spot.
This is the second weekly honor of Krstic's career, as the reigning CAA Rookie of the Year took home CAA Doubles Team of the Week last season alongside partner
Oskar Antinheimo. This is his first time winning CAA Player or Co-Player of the Week.
Krstic and the Phoenix return to action tomorrow night against UNCG. The match in Greensboro is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
