Lexington, Ky. – Elon seniors Anna Twomey and Piper Jons made their first ever trips to the NCAA East Region Preliminary Round Thursday, competing in the 1,500 and the 400. The meet is being hosted by the University of Kentucky.
 
Twomey was seeded No. 43 of the 48 competitors at the meet in the 1,500. The top 24 runners from Thursday's first round will compete Saturday for the opportunity to advance to the national championships. Twomey finished 42^nd overall with a time of 4:28.27 and was the top CAA finisher at the meet. The final qualifying time to Saturday's quarterfinal was 4:17.46.
 
Jons, who qualified for the NCAA East Regional after winning the CAA Championship less than two weeks ago, finished 40^th with a time of 54.43 seconds. The final qualifying time to Saturday's quarterfinal was 53.21 seconds.
 
Elon will have three more student-athletes compete Saturday. Kaitlin McGoogan will throw discus at 1:00 p.m., followed by Hannah Miller in the steeplechase at 5:40 p.m. The meet will conclude with Jette Beermann in the 5,000 at 8:10 p.m.
