Phoenix Wraps Up Road Slate At Hampton

ELON – The Elon University women's soccer team (7-2-4, 1-2-2 CAA) is set for its final road match of the regular season Sunday, as the Phoenix travels to face Hampton (5-8-1, 0-5-0 CAA).

The Hampton Series 
  • Elon has won its four previous meetings against Hampton, all of which have come since 2019.  
  • The Phoenix defeated the Pirates, 6-0, at Rudd last season on Senior Day. Five different Phoenix scored in the contest, with Lydia Totten notching a brace.  
  • In 2023 against Hampton, Elon scored a Division I program-record nine goals. The Phoenix racked up nine assists in the contest, the most in its Division I era. Grace Gelhaus scored a hat trick in the match, becoming the first Elon player to do so since 2017. McKenna Dalfonso recorded her 21st career shutout to become Elon's all-time career leader in clean sheets.  
  • This will be Elon's second time facing Hampton on the road. Elon defeated the Pirates, 8-0, in their lone away match against the Pirates.  
 
Last Time Out 
  • A late goal from Gelhaus secured a 2-1 victory for Elon at CAA South foe Campbell on Sunday night.  
  • Gelhaus scored with her right foot in the 86th minute on a second-effort chance to give the Phoenix the lead. Elon held on over the final few minutes to secure a crucial three points in the CAA South standings.  
  • Ashlee Brehio scored Elon's first goal of the night in the 36th minute off assists from Gabby Hoschek and Ava Hellner.  
  • Campbell narrowly outshot Elon, 15-13, and finished with a slight 6-4 advantage in shots on goal. The 13 shot attempts were the most in a CAA match for the Phoenix this season.   
  • Katie Bisgrove made five saves in a winning effort, with all five coming in the second half. It was her sixth time this season racking up five-plus stops.
  • Jessica Hill, Alexis Pierce and Hoschek all logged the full 90 minutes for the Phoenix. 
  • The win was Elon's first over Campbell in three meetings between the teams since the Camels joined the CAA in 2023. Elon is now 3-2-1 against the Camels in Buies Creek. 
  • Elon picked up three points in the CAA South standings with the victory. The Phoenix is now just three points behind third-place William & Mary for final spot in the CAA Tournament. 
 
Historic Shutout Streak 
  • Elon set a program record earlier this season with seven consecutive clean sheets, surpassing the previous record of six that was set in 1986, Elon's inaugural season.   
  • Elon went just over 716 minutes of game time without conceding a goal, a stretch that began in the second half at VCU on Aug. 14 and ended in the second half on Sept. 18 versus Hofstra. The Phoenix was just shy of 12 hours of without allowing a goal before the Pride ended the streak.  
  • Bisgrove started six of the shutout efforts in goal for the Phoenix. She is the first Elon goalie in program history to record a shutout in six consecutive games.  
  • Anna Hamner and Naomi Person combined for Elon's seventh shutout against South Carolina State.  
  • Bisgrove was the first goalkeeper in the country to reach six shutouts this season. She is currently tied with Drexel's Sammy Widnick for the most in the conference.   
  • Bisgrove's six straight clean sheets were the most by a CAA women's soccer student-athlete since Hofstra's Krystal Robens posted seven in a row in 2007. 
  • With her six clean sheets this season, Bisgrove is up to 11.5 in her career, which is already the ninth most in program history through her 29 appearances.  
  • The Phoenix leads the CAA and ranks top 25 in the nation in goals against average (.615). Elon's .875 save percentage is also the best in the conference and No. 9 nationally.  
  • Elon currently holds a plus-16 goal differential, the best in the CAA.  
  • Hill has anchored Elon's backline this season, playing 1,142 of a possible 1,170 minutes. She has logged the full 90 minutes on 11 occasions this season.  
  • Pierce and Megan Dwyer have also been key contributors on Elon's backline this season. Pierce is second among Elon position players with 1,043 minutes played this season, with Dwyer having logged 883 minutes.  
 
Murdock's Hot Start  
  • Isa Murdock leads the Phoenix with 12 points, with four goals and four assists on the campaign.  
  • The redshirt junior's four goals are tied with Gelhaus and Hoschek for the most on the Phoenix. Her 31 shot attempts and 15 shots on goal lead the Phoenix.  
  • Murdock is also tied with Brehio with a team-high four assists on the campaign. She has registered a goal or assist in seven of 13 appearances.  
  • Murdock scored in two of Elon's first three games this season against VCU and Gardner-Webb. She tallied her third goal of the campaign on Sept. 10 against South Carolina State and delivered her fourth on Sept. 27 at William & Mary.  
  • Murdock is up to 12 career goals, as she is one of four current Elon players, along with Brehio, Gelhaus and Hoschek, with double-digits as a Phoenix.    
 
GG   
  • Gelhaus, a preseason All-CAA selection, is tied for third on the team with 10 points this season. It took her just nine matches to surpass her season total of seven points from a season ago.  
  • Gelhaus matched a career high with her fourth goal of the season Sunday night at Campbell. She also netted four goals in 2023, with three coming against Hampton.  
  • Gelhaus assisted on Elon's first CAA goal on Sept. 18 at Hofstra, getting the ball to Brehio who connected on the game's first shot just 63 seconds into the contest.  
  • The junior scored two goals in a 21-second span in Elon's 4-0 victory over VMI on Aug. 17. She is one of two Elon players, along with Hoschek, to record a brace this season.  
  • Gelhaus is fifth on the team with 17 shots and has the best shot percentage (0.235) of any Phoenix with seven or more attempts this season. She has logged the fourth most minutes by Phoenix position players this season (994).   
 
Shlee Scoring 
  • Brehio has heated up over the last seven games, accounting for points in five of them. She has points in three of Elon's five CAA matches.  
  • The midfielder netted the first goal of her senior campaign on Sept. 7 at George Mason, her first two points since tallying two assists versus VMI on Aug. 17.  
  • Brehio added an assist in Elon's next game against South Carolina State before tallying her second goal in the CAA opener at Hofstra. She then assisted on Murdock's goal at William & Mary on Saturday.  
  • The senior tallied her second goal in conference play Sunday at Campbell. It was the 18th of her career as she leads all active Elon players in career goals.   
  • Brehio is now tied for third on the team with 10 points, eight of which have come in Elon's last seven contests. She has reached double-digit points in all four of her seasons with the Phoenix and is just two points shy of her career high (12), which she reached in both 2022 and 2024. 
 
The Great Gabby 
  • Hoschek, a preseason All-CAA honorable mention, is off to a strong start in 2025, as she is tied with Murdock and Gelhaus for the team lead in goals (4) and is second on the team with 11 points.  
  • In Elon's CAA opener at Hofstra, Hoschek scored the tying goal directly off a deep free kick with exactly one minute remaining to secure a result for the Phoenix. It was her third goal this season to come directly off a free kick.   
  • The junior delivered her second career brace on Sept. 10 against South Carolina State, as she scored two of Elon's first three goals in a 6-0 victory.  
  • On Aug. 28 at Queens, Hoschek connected on a free kick for her first goal of the campaign, ricocheting the ball off the left post and past the Royals' goalkeeper. 
  • In the second half versus the Royals, Hoschek delivered the secondary assist on Hellner's header goal. It was the junior's second time recording a goal and assist in the same contest, with the other coming at Wofford on Sept. 2, 2024.  
  • Hoschek has three assists this season, the most recent of which came Sunday night at Campbell on Brehio's goal.  
  • Hoschek has started 10 of 13 games for Elon this season, logging 962 minutes. 
 
Balanced Attack  
  • Through the first 13 games this season, Elon has had nine different scorers for its 24 goals. 
  • Murdock, Gelhaus and Hoschek lead the Phoenix with four goals, with Brehio, Hellner and Jess Beck close behind with three.  
  • Two Elon players have converted their first career goals this season. Freshman Abby Brinker scored in the second half of the VMI win, with junior Jenna Abousaab finding her first career tally in the victory at Queens.  
  • Lauren McCauley (1) is the other goal scorer this season for the Phoenix, as she converted against VMI on Aug. 17 
  • Additionally, 17 Elon players have recorded points on the campaign, with Jordan Green (2), Gia Milano (2), Miranda Dumornay (1), Hill (1), Talia Feigin (1), Maya Abousaab (1), Lilly McFadden (1) and Dwyer (1) all recording assists.  
 
New Look CAA Soccer  
  • Starting in 2025, the CAA will feature two divisions for women's soccer – a North and South Division.   
  • Elon is part of the South Division alongside Campbell, College of Charleston, Hampton, UNCW and William & Mary.   
  • The Phoenix will face all five South Division teams in the regular season along with four teams from the North Division.   
  • At the end of the regular season, the top three teams from each division will qualify for the CAA Championship. The top seed in each division will receive a by to the semifinals while the Nos. 2 and 3 seeds in both the North and South will clash in the quarterfinals.   
 
Scouting Hampton 
  • The Pirates enter Sunday's contest with a 5-8-1 record this season. They are still seeking their first conference victory.  
  • Hampton lost 4-1 at UNCW last weekend in its most recent conference contest.  
  • The Pirates have scored 23 goals this season, the fourth most in the conference. They lead the CAA with 252 shot attempts.  
  • Nylah Jennings leads the Pirates with five goals and 12 points this season. She scored Hampton's lone goal at UCNW last weekend. She ranks in the top 10 in the CAA in points.  
  • Caitlyn Peace and Madisyn Strange are second on the team with three goals apiece.  
  • Keri Geter has played every possible minute this season (1,260) in Hampton's 14 matches.  
  • Avery John started Hampton's 13 matches in goal before Annika Kleffmann started against the Seahawks on Sunday.  
  • Scott Vorwold is in his second season as the head coach of the Pirates.
