ELON – Elon is heading back to the NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Championship for the second time in the past five seasons where it will face second-seeded and 11th-ranked Duke in the opening round at 6 p.m. ET Friday in Durham.
Elon secured the Coastal Athletic Association's automatic berth after winning the 2025 CAA Tournament title and enters the NCAA Championship with an 11-2-7 record. It is Elon's third all-time NCAA Division I Championship appearance, following selections in the 2021 spring campaign and the 1999 season, the latter as the Big South Conference champion.
The Phoenix captured the 2025 CAA title by outlasting Stony Brook in a match that required 110 minutes and a 6-5 penalty-kick victory on Sunday. Elon is unbeaten in its past nine matches, a streak that began on Oct. 2. Five Phoenix – Gabby Gelhaus,
Gabby Hoschek,
Isa Murdock,
Katie Bisgrove and
Miranda Dumornay – collected All-CAA honors at the end of the regular season. Bisgrove was named the CAA Championship's Most Outstanding Player.
Duke earned the No. 2 seed with a 13-4-1 overall record and 7-3-0 mark in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Blue Devils have won seven of their past eight contests and will make their 30th all-time NCAA Championship appearance.
The winner of Friday's match advances to the second round to face the winner of the Maine (6-7-4) vs. Central Florida (11-3-5) contest. That second-round match will be played Thursday, Nov. 20.
