OUR TURF
The Phoenix has won its home tournament five out of nine times, including a run of three straight years between 2021-23, but will look to get back to its winning ways at Alamance Country Club after placing third last year. Elon tied its lowest 54-hole score with a 31-under 821 (279-271-271) on the way to winning the 2023 title; the Phoenix lineup included then-freshman
Jack Wieler, who tied for 19th with a 3-under 210.
IT'S HOW YOU FINISH
Four Phoenix shot under-par final rounds to power Elon to a runner-up finish at the West Bay Collegiate Invitational last week. Elon finished the 54-hole tournament with a 29-under-par 835 (283-278-274), vaulting three spots up the leaderboard with the third-round 274. Wieler and
William Carr – who shared CAA Golfer of the Week honors – tied for ninth with collegiate-low 18-hole scores of 206 (-10) while
Drew Yeagley posted a 6-under 210 (70-72-68) to tie for 15th. Wieler tied his 18-hole low score twice with back-to-back 66s in the second and third rounds and Carr set an Elon freshman 54-hole record (206), fueled by a 68-67 start through the first two rounds. Senior
Landon Durham – who has a final-round stroke average of 71.00 since the start of the 2024-25 season – played a key role in the rally, shooting a third-round 69 to finish his first 2025 Fall tournament tied for 31st with a 1-under 215.
JACK ATTACK
Wieler has been superb this fall, averaging 69.33 strokes per round while finishing among the top 22 individually in all three tournaments played, including two top-10 efforts. An All-CAA selection each of the past two seasons, Wieler collected his fourth career CAA weekly award last week following his 10-under 206 at West Bay Club.
THE NEW CAST
Much has changed in Elon's personnel department since the Phoenix captured its first CAA Championship last spring and advanced to the NCAA Bremerton Regional. Five freshmen – Carr, Yeagley,
Martin Saquicoray,
Dylan Lewis and
Bence Somogyi – have been mainstays this fall, playing in the lineup or as individuals throughout Elon's first three tournaments. Yeagley has shown a steady hand with top-18 individual finishes in all three tournaments to go along with a 70.33 stroke average, while Carr's highs have been eye catching; the latter has shot 67 twice already and set the Elon freshman low 54-hole record with 206 in Florida last week.
IN THE DRIVER'S SEAT
Elon men's golf head coach Don is in his 12th year at the program's helm in 2025-26. Hill was honored as the 2024-25 CAA Coach of the Year following the Phoenix's impressive conference title win in New Jersey last April, in addition to six other top-five finishes during the season. With six total freshmen on the 10-man roster this year, Hill has blended Elon's mix of experienced and unproven throughout the four-tournament Fall season.
