CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Helen Sarikulaya and Alexis Nyborg are into the main singles draw at ITA Carolina Regionals after both won a pair of qualifying matches Thursday. North Carolina is hosting the tournament at the Chewning Tennis Center.

Sarikulaya started her day with a 6-3, 7-6 (7) victory over ECU's Reese Calvo. In the afternoon, she came through a tight final set to defeat Charlotte's Yelyzaveta Chainykova 6-4, 5-7, 7-5, punching her ticket to the main draw.

Nyborg improved to a perfect 8-0 on the fall in singles with two victories. She began by topping Charlotte's Andrea Chacon, 6-3, 6-2, before another win against North Carolina's Mary Grace Rennard, 7-5, 6-2. Nyborg has lost just one of her 17 sets this fall.

Cornelia Kack and Madison Cordisco also advanced to the final round of qualifying singles with morning victories but fell in their second matches.

In the consolation draw, Nathalie Marinovitch, Lisa Kranec and Mariana Reding all picked up straight-set victories.

Main draw singles action will begin Friday, with Nyborg and Sarikulaya joining Simone Bergeron in the bracket. Doubles play will also begin Friday, with four Elon pairings in action.
