Phoenix Wins Overtime Thriller At UNCG

Klaczek, Cuthrell Double-Doubles Power Elon To 92-90 Road Victory

GREENSBORO – The Elon men's basketball team picked up its first road win of the season in dramatic fashion Saturday, outlasting UNCG 92-90 in overtime at Fleming Gymnasium. The Phoenix moved to 2-0 on the season behind a pair of standout performances from Kacper Klaczek and Chandler Cuthrell, who combined for 45 points and 23 rebounds.

Klaczek delivered one of the most complete games of his career, finishing with 25 points and 13 rebounds while shooting 8-of-16 from the field. The graduate forward also forced overtime with a game-tying 3-pointer with four seconds left in regulation.

Cuthrell – the son of UNCG Hall of Famer Eric Cuthrell – was equally critical, posting 20 points and 10 rebounds for his first double-double as a Phoenix. He scored 16 of those points after halftime and repeatedly answered UNCG runs, including six points in the final six minutes of regulation.

The matchup was tight throughout as neither side led by more than eight points and the teams were tied 11 times. Elon shot 40% from the floor and secured 46 rebounds, including 19 on the offensive end that fueled 12 second-chance points.

Isaac Harrell added 11 points, including a timely 3-pointer at the start of each half. Ja'Juan Carr contributed a steady floor game with seven assists, five rebounds and three steals to go along with five points, while Ned Hull provided a spark off the bench with eight points in 10 minutes of action.

Elon held UNCG scoreless from the field (0 of 6) in overtime, limiting the Spartans to just four free throws. After Bryson Cokley converted a transition dunk to put the Phoenix ahead 90-88 with a minute remaining, the sophomore closed out the game at the line with a pair of free throws before Elon secured the final defensive stop to seal the win.

UNCG (0-2) shot 47.6% and knocked down 14 threes but was held to 4-of-15 shooting from the floor in the final 10 minutes of regulation plus overtime.
