Virginia Beach, Va. – The Elon University indoor track & field team heads to the Virginia Beach Sports Center to compete in the third CAA Indoor Track & Field Championship Wednesday and Thursday. Elon, the 2023 CAA Indoor Track & Field champion, will look to return to the top of the conference after finishing second a year ago.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR
- As the CAA Championships proceed, there will be storylines throughout for Elon.
- In the pentathlon, Lizzie Lopez enters with the conference's best regular season pentathlon score at 3,568 points.
- Sophomore Caden Cerminara has shattered her PR multiple times in the pole vault and is tied for third entering the event Wednesday morning.
- Stavriana Adamou has the third-best time in the CAA in the 60 hurdles but is a distant third to North Carolina A&T's Lucheyona Weaver and Monmouth's Yasmeen Tinsley. The rest of the conference is separated by hundredths of a second.
- Adriana Clarke ranks third in the CAA in the weight throw and is one of four competitors who has recorded a distance over 17 meters this year.
- Shayla Cann has gotten faster and faster in the 800 as the year has worn on and she is the fifth seed for the CAA Championships.
- Elon has five competitors in the 5,000 late Wednesday, all of whom have a chance to podium. Mikayla Jones ranks second in the CAA, followed by Madison Synowiec (No. 3), Katie Blount (No. 4), Hannah Weber (No. 5) and Mariana Martinez (No. 6).
- On Thursday, Jazlyn Jefferson will have the target on her back in the triple jump. She is the only competitor to clear 40-feet this year and is the No. 1 seed.
- After running the 5,000 Wednesday evening, Jones will turn around to compete in the 3,000 Thursday afternoon as the No. 3 seed. Synowiec will do the same as the No. 5 seed and Blount as well as the No. 8 seed.
ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
- Elon has earned three CAA Field Athlete of the Week honors this year.
- Jazlyn Jefferson was named CAA Field Athlete of the Week for the second time this year on Feb. 11 after break the school record in the triple jump with a CAA-leading mark of 40-feet-2.25 (12.25m)
- Lizzie Lopez was named CAA Field Athlete of the Week on Jan. 28 after setting a career-best point total of 3,386 points in the pentathlon at the Brant Tolsma Invitational. At the time, that total led the CAA.
- Jazlyn Jefferson was named CAA Field Athlete of the Week on Dec. 10 following a triple jump performance of 39-7 (12.07m). That distance ranks fourth in program history and was just seven inches shy of the program record.

In most events, the top 24 qualifiers advance to the NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships.
Mikayla Jones is currently Elon's top national competitor, ranked No. 64 in the 5,000.

According to the USTFCCCA's Track & Field Rating Index (TFRI), Elon enters the conference championships ranked third in the CAA with 353.76 rating points. Northeastern is currently the CAA leader with 407.36 rating points, followed by Hampton with 390.96. William & Mary sits behind Elon at 327.50 and Monmouth is fifth at 296.98. Towson, North Carolina A&T, Delaware, College of Charleston, UNCW, Campbell, Stony Brook and Hofstra round out the league standings.
