Elon Lands Nine Top-10 Performances Friday

Elon, N.C. – The Elon University indoor track & field team posted nine top-10 performances Friday as the Phoenix took part in a pair of meets. Elon ran split squads at the Doc Hale Invitational, hosted by Virginia Tech, and the Camel City Sprints at JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem.
 
Seven of those nine top-10 efforts were top-five performances in program history, with Mikayla Jones becoming the second-fastest 3,000 runner in school annals.
 
INTO THE RECORD BOOKS
  • Mikayla Jones closed the day with an electrifying time of 9:33.19 in the 3,000 for a new personal best and the second-fastest in program history. She currently ranks No. 3 in the CAA in the event.
  • Lizzie Lopez scored a career-best 3,568 points in the pentathlon by posting four new PRs and tying her PR in the other event. She ran the 60 hurdles in 9.05 seconds, threw the shot put 28-feet-10.5 (8.80m), jumped 18-4.25 (5.59m) in long jump and posted a time of 2:28.79 in the 800. She tied her personal best in the high jump by clearing 5-4.5 (1.64m). Her point total ranks No. 1 in the CAA this year.
  • Arianna Alexander ran an Elon career-best time of 7.63 seconds, ranking No. 3 in program history.
  • Caden Cerminara cleared a new personal best in pole vault for the second straight outing. She cleared 12-5.5 (3.80m) to move to third in school history. That is tied for third in the CAA this year.
  • Shayla Cann now ranks fourth in program history in the 800 after running a personal best 2:12.24.
  • Adriana Clarke continues her assault on the weight throw record book, posting another personal best by throwing 57-2 (17.42m). That distance is fourth in program history and No. 2 in the CAA this year.
  • Madison Synowiec ran a PR in the 3,000 (along with teammate Jones) and posted the fourth-fastest time in school history at 9:35.85. That time ranks fifth in the CAA currently.
  • Isabella Johnson also recorded a top-10 weight throw performance with a personal best distance of 53-9 (16.38m). That ranks eighth in school history.
  • Duna Viñals posted a PR time of 57.23 seconds in the 400. That time is ranked No. 10 in program history.
 
OTHER NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
  • Quinn Smith placed second in the mile at the Doc Hale Meet with a new PR time of 4:54.42.
  • Meghan Coyne posted a personal best 49-5.75 (15.08m) in weight throw and teammate Grace Wager did the same at 43-1.75 (13.15m).
  • Meghan Wilcox ran a season-best time of 7.70 seconds in the 60.
  • Ja'mia Johnson recorded a career-best time of 9.06 seconds in the 60 hurdles.
 
UP NEXT
  • Elon returns to the track Saturday for day two of the Doc Hale Invitational, beginning with the triple jump at 11 a.m. Elon will also compete in the Camel City Distance at JDL Fast Track with triple jump beginning at 10 a.m.
