Women’s Golf Travels To Southport For 2025 CAA Championship

ELON, N.C. – Coming off a strong spring regular season, the Elon University women's golf team looks to continue that success this weekend at the 2025 CAA Championship on Friday–Sunday. The tournament will be held at The Reserve Club at St. James, a par-72, 6,013-yard course in Southport, N.C.
 
TOURNAMENT INFORMATION  
  • Teams will play one round each on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Play will begin at 8:30 a.m. on both Friday and Saturday and at 8 a.m. on Sunday. Players will tee off continuously on holes No. 1 and 10 on Friday-Sunday. 
  • The other teams participating in the event are Campbell, College of Charleston, Delaware, Hofstra, Monmouth, North Carolina A&T, Towson, UNCW and William & Mary.

SPRING SEASON RECAP
  • Elon opened the spring by tying for 4th place at the Advance Golf Partner Collegiate in Greensboro, N.C. Kelly Zhao finished 4th individually with three rounds of par or better (217, -2), earning CAA Player of the Week honors on Feb. 12.
  • The Phoenix followed up with a 3rd-place finish at the Rivertowne Invitational, led by freshman Garland Gould, who tied for 13th place with a 223 (+7).
  • After a month-long break, Elon competed at the City of Oaks Collegiate, finishing 13th. Emma Hansen was the team's top finisher, tying for 26th place.
  • At the Ironwood Invitational in Greenville, N.C., the Phoenix placed 6th. Ashley Lafontaine paced the squad, tying for 20th after climbing 14 spots on the leaderboard with a final-round 73 (+1).
  • Elon wrapped up its regular season tying for 4th place at the Tennessee Spring Challenge. Lafontaine once again led the Phoenix, tying for 9th, while Emma Hansen fired a bogey-free 69 (-3) in round two—matching team's lowest round of the season.
HISTORY AT THE CAA CHAMPIONSHIP 
  • Elon placed fifth at last year's CAA Championship, finishing with a 54-hole total of 937 (+73). Apple Ngamwong led the Phoenix with a tie for seventh place, while Annie Wu also cracked the top 20, tying for 18th. Delaware won the event at 909 (+45).
  • Phoenix golfers have recorded 13 top-10 individual finishes at the CAA Championship. The best individual finish came in 2015, when Heather Munro (2014–2018) tied for second place.
  • Seven of Elon's nine CAA Championship appearances have taken place in Southport. The Phoenix has never finished worse than fifth when competing there.
