No. 1 Elon Defeats No. 4 Charleston to Advance to CAA Championship

Box Score Elon, N.C. – The Elon University women's tennis team is headed to the CAA Championship final for their second all-time appearance. The Phoenix punched their ticket to the final with a 4-0 sweep over Charleston. No. 1 Elon will face three-time defending CAA champion No. 2 William & Mary on Sunday at 10 a.m. at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.

Doubles: 
To start off their CAA tournament appearance, dynamic duo Simone Bergeron and Mariana Reding picked up their eleventh doubles win in a row with a 6-0 victory, putting Elon one step closer to winning the doubles point. However, Charleston fought fire with fire, winning on court No. 3, leaving it up to court No. 2 to decide the doubles point. 

At court No. 2, Lisa Kranec and Helen Sarikulaya pulled off an impressive comeback after trailing 5-3. Kranec and Sarikulaya rallied to tie the set 6-6 to force a tie breaker. They carried the momentum into the tiebreak, delivering a dominant 7-2 performance to secure a 7-6 victory for Elon.

Singles:
Cruising into singles, Mariana Reding collected her seventh singles win in a row, giving the Phoenix their second point, by defeating Charleston's Francesca Salvato in straight sets of 6-2, 6-1. Putting Elon one singles win away from clinching the match, Heidi Bulger defeated Sia Cariov 6-2, 6-2.

To clinch the fourth point and send the Phoenix to the CAA Championship, Madison Cordisco completed a dominant 6-1, 6-1 win over Charleston's Jaiden McKee. 

Up next: The Phoenix will face three-time defending champs William & Mary on Sunday at 10 a.m. at JPTC. William & Mary earned a 4-0 victory over No. 3 Delaware in the semifinals.

About The Matchup :
A frequent flyer at the CAA Championship, No. 2 William & Mary goes into the match Sunday attempting their fourth consecutive CAA Championship win. The Tribe ended their regular season 14-5, receiving the No. 2 seed for the CAA tournament. The Phoenix last faced William & Mary just a week ago, where Elon earned a tight 4-3 victory.
